As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the golden era of Tamil cinema and had the privilege to grow up with the legendary Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam‘s collaborations, I can hardly contain my excitement for their upcoming masterpiece, Thug Life! The record-breaking deal worth Rs 149.7 crores that Netflix has secured for this film is a testament to the enduring influence of these cinematic titans.

I’m thrilled to be part of the circle sharing the exciting news: legendary actor Kamal Haasan and acclaimed director Mani Ratnam are teaming up once more, after their iconic film Nayagan decades ago. Their upcoming project, Thug Life, has already sparked a lot of interest since its announcement, and it appears that it’s broken records with its OTT rights deal too!

As per a report from Deccan Herald, the streaming giant Netflix has shelled out a massive sum of approximately Rs 149.7 crores to acquire the rights to this film. Notably, several Tamil films such as Thalapathy Vijay’s The GOAT and Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly have also been reportedly bought for high prices in recent times.

It appears that the movie starring Kamal Haasan has broken all previous records, resulting in a significant deal for the production team. According to a major Tamil film distributor, this agreement has been finalized. The highly anticipated collaboration between Haasan and Ratnam is rumored to be an action-drama film that will span multiple time periods.

As a die-hard fan, I’m beyond thrilled to share that the captivating screenplay of “Thug Life” is a joint effort by none other than the brilliant Kamal himself! If you recall, he last graced our screens as a writer for “Vishwaroopam II,” back in 2018. This film, which spotlights our legendary actor in the lead role, boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Joju George, Nassar, Abhirami Gopikumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jisshu Sengupta, Sanya Malhotra, and many more in pivotal roles. I can’t wait to see this masterpiece unfold on the big screen!

Initially planned, the movie originally intended to star Dulquer Salmaan and Jayam Ravi as the main characters. Unfortunately, production issues led both actors to withdraw from the project. Eventually, Silambarasan took on the role that was originally assigned to Dulquer.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the highly-anticipated masterpiece jointly produced by Kamal Haasan will grace our big screens at the start of 2025. Notably, this cinematic genius is also expected to make an appearance in Indian 3: War Mode, which we can expect to see next year.
