Renuka Swamy case: Jailed actor Darshan Thoogudeepa's family to lodge complaint against prison authorities; here’s why

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry, I find myself deeply troubled by the ongoing saga surrounding Kannada star Darshan Thoogudeepa. The allegations against him are severe and demand due process and fair treatment under the law. However, the recent developments in his case have left me questioning the inconsistencies that seem to exist within our justice system.

Star from Kannada cinema, Darshan Thoogudeepa, has been under scrutiny due to accusations that he was involved in the violent killing of his fan, Renuka Swamy. On June 11, he was taken into custody along with his rumored partner, actress Pavithra Gowda, and is now being held in legal custody. In the most recent update, Darshan’s family plans to file a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) against the officials at Ballari prison, claiming that they are displeased over the reported denial of facilities for the incarcerated actor, as stated in a report from The New Indian Express.

Contrary to the allegations, prison authorities maintain that Darshan Thoogudeepa is being handled in accordance with the prison regulations. Additionally, he’s been provided a television and a surgical chair within his cell. The detained actor reportedly asked for additional items such as pillows, bedsheets, and more, according to a correctional officer. As per the New Indian Express, a high-ranking jail official stated that “He has requested a few more things. We have forwarded his request to our higher-ups who will decide on it.”

On the 19th of September, Darshan Thoogudeepa was visited by his mother and relatives in prison. He opened up about his incarceration to them. Subsequently, they held a conversation with his legal representative regarding the subject.

Additionally, the report indicated that Darshan’s family feels he isn’t receiving fair treatment as an under-trial prisoner. Consequently, they have been directed by his legal counsel to submit a complaint to the State Human Rights Commission.

It is pertinent to mention that Thoogudeepa is currently lodged in Ballari Central Prison and was shifted from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after his picture receiving alleged VIP treatment went viral.
