As a seasoned gamer of the rollercoaster that is television shows, I must admit, I find myself somewhat disheartened by the treatment of Damon Sims in All American: Homecoming. Having invested my time in the first two seasons, I found his character to be an integral part of Simone’s life, both as a romantic interest and a support system.

Right off the bat, it was obvious that All American: Homecoming was planning to make Damon Sims a major romantic figure in my life, Simone’s. From the get-go, in the show’s backdoor pilot, there was a bond between me and Damon that played a crucial part in Simone’s emotional break from her long-distance relationship with Jordan Baker.

After the introduction of Lando as another potential romantic interest for Simone on All American: Homecoming, fans quickly found themselves divided about which Bringston baseball player would make a better match for her. For a time, it seemed that the question of who Simone would choose to end the love triangle remained unanswered. However, with Damon being written off the show at the start of season three, he has effectively vanished from everyone’s lives, making his role in Simone’s romantic life less relevant.

Damon was supposed to pursue his baseball career in the Dominican Republic, whereas Simone decided to break up so they could each concentrate fully on their individual sports without being entangled in a long-distance relationship.

Instead of Damon being present physically in season three, it seems as though he has become insignificant or non-existent in the storyline. A flashback montage titled “After the Love Has Gone” suggests that All American: Homecoming may be implying that Damon no longer plays a significant role in Simone’s life.

The flashbacks open with recalling Simone’s relationship with Jordan. Afterward, the montage focuses a lot on group memories Simone shares with her found family at Bringston and concludes with recalling a romantic moment with Lando. But, where were Simone’s memories of her romance with Damon? Why was that not relevant?

Generally speaking, Damon seldom gets mentioned by anyone. This isn’t unusual for characters who are no longer main cast members. However, it seems peculiar that his relationship with Simone was omitted entirely from her memory montage, considering the significant role they had in the first two seasons of All American: Homecoming.

In the storyline, Damon played a crucial role as part of Simone’s network of helpers. Despite his absence in Season Three, it stands out that he was left out during her flashback scenes.

In simpler terms, Simone gets an early episode to express her feelings about Damon being missing, but the story soon shifts its focus to other main plots like Simone rekindling her relationship with Lando and dealing with the cancer-related issues. Meanwhile, Damon’s presence is subtly hinted at, much like JR casually mentioning someone in passing.

The third season of “All American: Homecoming” has sparked much debate, with the emotional triangle involving JR and Keisha’s infidelity, Simone’s cancer journey, and the seemingly dismissive portrayal of her tennis career. Despite hints that Simone might end up either alone or with Lando in the series finale, the omission of Damon, who played a crucial role as a friend or potential love interest to Simone in flashbacks, weakens the dynamic that “All American: Homecoming” had initially built upon.
