Transformers One Sequel Likely, How Future Live-Action Movies Will Differ

As a lifelong Transformers fan who has witnessed the evolution of these metallic titans from my childhood to adulthood, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming “Transformers One.” The prospect of an animated sequel, as hinted by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, is tantalizing.

Despite the fact that “Transformers One” won’t hit theaters until this weekend, veteran Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura already envisions a follow-up movie in the making.

Discussing the future of the Transformers movie series with Collider, di Bonaventura hinted that if the next film performs well, a follow-up titled “Transformers One” could be released, and this sequel would tell an entirely distinct story from the live-action universe of previous Transformers films.

Di Bonaventura stated that, assuming things go well, we’ll move forward with a follow-up, and it will be an animated series distinct from any live-action projects we might have.

Future of Transformers franchise will focus on Transformers’ POV

In another part of the interview, di Bonaventura discussed the upcoming direction for the live-action Transformers film series. He confirmed that the next movie would indeed involve a collaboration with the G.I. Joe universe. Moreover, he mentioned that future films aim to present narratives from the perspective of the robots.

In simple terms, Di Bonaventura stated that the upcoming live-action film will be a blend of different stories or worlds. The unique challenge lies in portraying the emotional capabilities of the robots, something we’ve never seen before. This means we’ll have to carefully craft a setting where this can happen, ensure it’s financially feasible, and develop a story that maximizes this emotional depth. One aspect I’m particularly eager to explore, although plans are still in development and nothing is finalized yet, is delving deeper into the robots’ perspectives in the live-action version, as this is the key to understanding them better.

The Movie” was released, and after a break of five years, live-action Transformers movies came back in 2023 with “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Transformers One opens in theaters on September 20, 2024.
