Moana 2: New Dwayne Johnson Song Confirmed for Disney Sequel, Gave The Rock ‘Chills’

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for animated musicals, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui and singing another catchy number in Moana 2! The first movie’s “You’re Welcome” was an earworm that still lingers in my memory.

Dwayne Johnson will sing again in Moana 2.

In November of this year, Moana 2 will hit theaters across the U.S.A. This time around, Dwayne Johnson will once again bring Maui to life on screen, while Auli’i Cravalho lends her voice to the character of Moana.

In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, the songwriting duo, revealed that Johnson will be singing yet another tune in Moana 2 following his popular hit “You’re Welcome” from the initial Moana film.

Barlow admitted that crafting that particular tune proved challenging. To put it straight, several attempts were made before we finally captured the essence we aimed for. Needless to say, it wasn’t an easy feat at all. However, once Dwayne listened to the song, we received a FaceTime call from none other than Dwayne Johnson! I was in my robe in New York City, and Emily was driving, when suddenly we found ourselves discussing the tune with Dwayne Johnson himself.

Bear mentioned, “We were eager to know his initial reactions. So, I found myself thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness, I wonder what he’s going to tell us!’

Barlow and Bear noted that fortunately, Johnson was quite fond of the tune, so much so that it sent shivers down his spine.

Barlow remarked with relief that he enjoyed it deeply and even had goosebumps. What mattered most to us was that he would have a good time and take pleasure in presenting it.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, that tune is a blast! But it’s packed with lyrics – Maui and Dwayne truly rose to the occasion in tackling this challenge.

In the cast of Moana 2, we find Temuera Morrison playing Tui, Nicole Scherzinger portraying Sina, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda assuming the role of Simea, Rose Matafeo taking on Loto, David Fane as Kele, and Alan Tudyk voicing Heihei.

In U.S. cinemas, the sequel to Moana is set for release on November 27, 2024, a production by both Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Animation Studios.
