Agatha All Along: Kathryn Hahn Explains Mare of Easttown Tribute

As a devoted fan of both the enchanting world of Marvel and the gripping drama of crime shows, I must say that Agatha All Along has truly captured my heart. The way it pays tribute to the captivating Mare of Easttown is not just clever, but also deeply nostalgic for me. It’s like a magical blend of two worlds I adore!

Just as WandaVision nods to traditional sitcoms, Agatha All Along also pays homage to the popular HBO series, Mare of Easttown.

What is Agatha All Along’s Connection to Mare of Easttown?

In the beginning, Kathryn Hahn’s character Agatha Harkness finds herself under a spell cast by Wanda Maximoff. She has been transformed into Agnes O’Connor, a police detective and leading figure in the television series ‘Agnes of Westview.’ This fictional crime show is a tribute to Mare of Easttown, an HBO drama starring Kate Winslet.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hahn shared that her affection for Mare of Easttown and crime dramas sparked the creation of the initial scenes in Agatha All Along.

Hahn expressed her fascination with the series “Mare of Easttown” when it debuted, stating that she couldn’t get enough of it. She adores the show immensely, and so does its creator Jac Schaeffer, as it offers a compelling crime drama headed by a powerful female protagonist who has a complex history. The series follows familiar patterns for this type of program. Moreover, Hahn is a fan of “Broadchurch” and many other shows in the same genre, making it clear that “Mare of Easttown” was a heartfelt tribute to this particular style of television production.

In the story penned by Jac Shaeffer, Agatha All Along portrays Agatha as a seemingly powerless witch. Joined by a fresh coven, Agatha embarks on a perilous journey along the fabled Witches’ Path, seeking to regain her lost magical abilities.

In addition to Hahn, the Marvel series also features actors like Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza.

The first two episodes are now streaming on Disney+.
