As an ardent fan of Malayalam cinema, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming release of Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys on Disney+ Hotstar on September 23, 2024! Having grown up watching the struggles and triumphs of characters in coming-of-age films, this movie seems to resonate deeply with my life experiences.
Director Vipin Das, famed for Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, recently created a comedy-drama film titled Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys. This movie, which has garnered significant attention in theaters, will soon be available on OTT platforms, broadening its reach to an online audience.
The highly anticipated coming-of-age movie is scheduled to premiere online on September 23, 2024. You’ll be able to watch it streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The OTT platform themselves announced this through a post on their social media account (previously known as Twitter).

Vaazha” tells the story of five companions labeled as failures by their families and community, often referred to as ‘useless ones’ in a casual context. The movie delves into the challenges these friends encounter as they grow from childhood to adulthood, navigating their way through life.
Exploring themes of friendship, family, love, and growing up, this film delves into the challenges faced by its characters and shows how they find solutions to their life’s obstacles. The title “Biopic of a Billion Boys” seems fitting as it reflects the relatability of the characters to many people in real life.
In this movie, Siju Sunny, Saaf Boi, Joemon Jyothir, Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, and Amith Mohan Rajeshwari are the main cast members. Other notable actors, including Jagadish, Kottayam Nazeer, Noby Marcose, and Azees Nedumangad, play significant roles. Lastly, Basil Joseph makes a brief appearance in the film.
It’s worth noting that the movie’s popularity resulted in plans for a sequel being announced. This upcoming film, titled “Vaazha II – Biopic of a Billion Bros,” will also be directed by a newcomer, with Vipin Das serving as the producer once more.
Vipin personally revealed on his Instagram that he’s officially launching a follow-up, and it will star prominent figures from Malayalam content creation – Hashir, Alan, Vinayak, and Ajin Joy – in main roles. These very same individuals had significant parts in the original as well.
Stepping onto the creative canvas of Vipin Das, I recently found myself engrossed in his latest directorial venture, “Guruvayoor Ambalanadyil”. This remarkable film brought together the talented duo, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil, in leading roles.
