Why do Roger and Buck end up in the wrong time in Outlander Season 7B?

As a long-time fan of Outlander, I have to say that the twists and turns in Season 7B have left me utterly bewildered and enthralled all at once! The journey of Roger and Buck has taken an unexpected turn, with their time travel not landing them where they anticipated.

In Outlander Season 7B, things aren’t turning out as Roger and Buck had anticipated. Instead of arriving at the time period they planned for, they’ll find themselves in a different time.

Caution: We’re diving into spoilers from Written in My Own Heart’s Blood in this post.

In the closing chapters of Outlander Season 7A, I discovered alongside my partner Buck that a journey into the past was unavoidable. The enigmatic Rob Cameron had whisked young Jemmy away, and it’s evident that he is privy to the treasure hidden in times long gone. Traces left behind pointed towards Jemmy having been sent through the stones, and we suspect that Rob intends to bring him back to 1778 to seize this hidden gold.

Straight away, Roger recognized that he would journey through the stones to retrieve his son. However, it’s not just him; Buck also has a role in this. Jemmy is related to Buck, and he too will pass through the stones. But, unexpectedly, the two men won’t reach their expected destination.

Jemmy isn’t in the past in Outlander Season 7B

In “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood,” we learn that Jemmy is not in the past as everyone believes. Instead, he has been hidden at Bree’s workplace all along. Although Jemmy manages to escape, it is too late to prevent Roger from traveling back through time.

It seems as though the idea is that, because Roger and Buck were contemplating Jemmy, one might infer that the stones propel them to the present moment. Indeed, these stones appear to excel at ejecting individuals from their original times. Roger discovered this firsthand when he pondered his father’s image during his initial journey—the stones prevent a person from visiting a time where they already exist.

As I ventured forth, I found the stones magically parted before me, granting access to an unexpected path. It seemed these ancient relics were not leading me to the Jeremiah MacKenzie I had assumed they did.

The stones send Roger and Buck to another Jeremiah MacKenzie

In the past, there was another Jeremiah MacKenzie, this time Roger will encounter his father. He journeys through the stones to the year 1739, with a mission to save young Roger from impending death.

It has long been assumed by Roger that his father perished during World War II. However, his plane was discovered, but not his father. Remarkably, Jerry possesses the ability to traverse time, and he apparently made use of these abilities near where his father’s plane had landed.

1) In 1739, he finds himself trapped. It’s only by Roger traveling through time to rescue his father that his dad can return to a fate ultimately resulting in his death. During the London Blitz in World War II, Roger’s mother passed him off to Jerry as they were both caught in the collapse of a tube station. Sadly, Jerry perished, but he was instrumental in saving Roger. If Roger hadn’t traveled back in time, this sequence of events wouldn’t have occurred, which would mean that Roger himself would not have survived.

In the intriguing world of Outlander, it’s likely that Rogers and Buccleuch will uncover the enigmatic ways in which stones operate during Season 7B.
