We hope to see Ed Baldwin in For All Mankind Season 5, but we're getting prepared not to

As a gamer who has binge-watched countless sci-fi series, I can confidently say that Ed Baldwin’s character in For All Mankind is one of the most intriguing and relatable. The man just wants to be an astronaut, and he’s been on a rollercoaster ride through every season.

Joel Kinnaman’s character, Ed Baldwin, has consistently been a dependable and entertaining figure in the series For All Mankind. His ambition lies solely in becoming an astronaut, a goal he has persistently pursued each season.

Occasionally, there have been instances where others desired his departure, and he transitioned from NASA to a private enterprise. Ever since then, he’s established himself as an integral part of missions, and during the fourth season, we discovered that he consistently sought excuses to delay his return to Earth. The rationale for this has us bracing ourselves not to encounter Ed in For All Mankind Season 5.

Why didn’t Ed Baldwin return to Earth in For All Mankind Season 4?

In the heart of the fourth gaming level, I confessed to my companions that I wouldn’t be rejoining our home base because it would mark my final space voyage. I’m an older player, and I feel the wear and tear on my body. By the fourth season, I was 72, and the hand tremors were a clear reminder of the passage of time.

Ed yearns for a death amidst the cosmos. He’s not keen on spending his later years confined to disposable undergarments or requiring constant assistance. Such a fate doesn’t align with the lifestyle of an astronaut. Consequently, he finds himself in a predicament, effectively living with this dream but unable to fulfill it.

Could Ed Baldwin die before For All Mankind Season 5?

In contrast to many other shows, For All Mankind has included deaths between seasons, such as the demise of Molly Cobb. Her last appearance was at the end of Season 3, where she went back into the building to save more people. However, her character wasn’t seen again until Season 4’s premiere, when we learned from news reports that she had been killed during those events.

In Season 5, it’s possible that the series could introduce a storyline involving Ed at the outset. Perhaps an incident occurs in Happy Valley during the off-season, or maybe he returns to Earth where he meets his end. Given the stature of a man like Ed, there might be some form of tribute paid to him, and it would be important for viewers to be brought up to speed on these events.

It’s great to imagine having Ed in the show, but since fresh characters need to be introduced, it could mean that by Season 5 of “For All Mankind,” Ed might be approximately 81 years old. Given such a time leap, it seems unlikely that he would be participating in space missions due to their slim probability.
