James Cameron Gives Hiroshima Movie Update, Buys Rights to Second Book

As a die-hard fan of James Cameron‘s cinematic masterpieces, I can hardly contain my excitement about his upcoming project, “Last Train From Hiroshima.” With a career spanning decades and a knack for transforming historical events into visually stunning and emotionally impactful films, there’s no doubt in my mind that this movie will be nothing short of extraordinary.

James Cameron is planning to make a Last Train From Hiroshima movie.

Meanwhile, as Cameron engages in numerous Avatar sequel projects, it’s worth noting that the director of Terminator has expressed interest in adapting the 2015 book “Last Train from Hiroshima” by Charles Pellegrino into a full-length movie in the past.

10 years back, Cameron acquired the rights to turn a book into a movie. Now, according to Deadline, he has also bought the rights for Pellegrino’s upcoming book Ghost of Hiroshima, due for publication by Blackstone Publishing in 2025.

As reported by Deadline, Cameron intends to combine both novels into a single intense movie production titled “Last Train From Hiroshima.” He aims to start filming this project once the production of Avatar allows it.

What else do we know about James Cameron’s Hiroshima movie?

The movie tells a portion of the real-life tale of a Japanese individual who endured the atomic bombing in Hiroshima, boarded a train bound for Nagasaki, and miraculously survived another nuclear detonation there.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve always yearned to create a film around a particular theme that has challenged me for years. Just before he passed away, I had the privilege of meeting Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a remarkable individual who survived both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Sitting in a hospital bed, he entrusted us with his personal story. The responsibility is mine now; I can’t ignore it. This project has become more than just a game for me – it’s a mission that must be accomplished.

Josh Stanton, CEO of Blackstone Publishing, expressed his excitement and honor in publishing “Ghosts of Hiroshima” by Charles Pellegrino. This book is set to be a key resource for James Cameron’s upcoming blockbuster film.

Cameron’s upcoming film, “Last Train From Hiroshima”, marks the first movie he’s directed since 1997’s “Titanic” that isn’t part of the Avatar series. Notably, he has also been involved in creating films such as “Piranha II: The Spawning” from 1982, “The Terminator” and “Aliens” both released in 1984, “The Abyss” from 1989, the sequel “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” from 1991, and “True Lies” from 1994.
