As a long-time television enthusiast who has seen countless shows come and go, I must say that this autumn’s lineup is particularly intriguing. The golden years may be upon us, but it seems our screen heroes are as spry and determined as ever!

Television shows on fall schedule have begun! On September 8, the new series “Universal Basic Guys” aired on FOX (check out our review!). Now, we are all set for the full lineup to unfold. By November, with all shows returning or premiering, there’s plenty to anticipate in the coming months.

The upcoming week starting September 16 offers a comfortable release pace to gradually immerse us into the new season. Just six series will be airing, yet it promises an engaging experience nonetheless. Leading off the week is the premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars’, debuting its season 33, and featuring Jenn Tran from ‘The Bachelorette’ and Joey Graziadei from ‘The Bachelor’ as this year’s contestants. This week is expected to be significant for ‘Bachelor Nation’ fans due to the premiere of ‘The Golden Bachelorette‘, chronicling Joan Vassos’ romantic journey, which includes a budding romance with Mark, Kelsey Anderson’s father.

Dancing with the Stars season 33

The show will premiere on Tuesday, September 17th at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC. It’s a two-hour episode each time, and it will be available for streaming simultaneously on Disney+. New episodes will become available on Hulu every Wednesday.

It’s worth mentioning that this season of “Dancing with the Stars” features not just one, but two contestants from Bachelor Nation. Joining them on the dance floor will be Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik (they were both at this year’s Emmys!), Phaedra Parks, Tori Spelling, Reginald VelJohnson, Anna Delvey, and others. Additionally, a new professional dancer, Ezra Sosa, who joined the team in 2021, marks a significant milestone as he is the first Latin pro on the series in over a decade.

The show will premiere on Tuesday, September 17th, airing at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC. Each episode lasts for an hour. You can stream new episodes every Wednesday on Hulu.

We’re without Will Trent in the fall but ABC is making sure we get our off-beat procedural fix with their new drama High Potential. The series, led by Kaitlin Olson, follows Morgan, a single mom with a genius IQ who gets promoted from cleaning lady to consultant after she easily makes a break on a case the department has been investigating. She’s partnered with Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), a by-the-book detective whose eyebrow raises at her methods but they do manage to cultivate an interesting partnership. If you like Wild Cards, this series is one to try.

The Golden Bachelorette

As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share that the premiere of our beloved show is set for Wednesday, September 18th at 8 p.m. ET, gracing our screens on ABC. Each episode will span a captivating 90 minutes. For those who can’t catch it live, don’t worry! New episodes will be available every Thursday on Hulu for us to enjoy at our convenience. Can’t wait!

Following an unexpected departure from “The Golden Bachelor” due to supporting her daughter dealing with post-partum issues, fans eagerly anticipated Joan Vassos’ return for her own season. ABC graciously fulfilled our hopes, and now we get to join her in her pursuit of love once more after the passing of her husband, as potential matches from their golden years compete to win her affection.

Matlock

First broadcast date: Sunday, September 22 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS

The wait is finally over for our first look at Matlock, CBS’ iteration of the hit Andy Griffith law drama that’s being billed as “not your grandfather’s Matlock.” The show follows Matty, played by the incomparable Kathy Bates, an extremely cunning woman who earns her way into a position at a law firm after she proves she can use people’s preconceived notions about her against them. Folks don’t see her coming because she’s an older woman and that mistake is all the advantage she needs.

Rescue: HI-Surf

The show will first air on Fox this Sunday, September 22nd at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and each episode lasts an hour. Please note that the second episode will broadcast on Monday, September 23rd at 9 p.m. ET and this will be its regular timeslot moving forward. If you miss the premiere, you can catch it on Hulu starting Monday, September 23rd. New episodes will follow every Tuesday from September 24th onwards.

“Unlike many first responder dramas you see on TV, Rescue: HI-Surf stands out. This lifeguard series takes place in O’ahu, specifically along the most hazardous seven miles of coast in Hawaii. The show is filled with non-stop action, requiring the actors to earn their certification, perform real-life rescues during filming, and undergo rigorous training alongside daily responders. Of course, you’ll also find drama, as careers are at stake, romantic entanglements develop, and the pressure of the job affects the lifeguards’ personal lives.
