As a gamer with a soft spot for action-packed films and a deep affection for the John Wick franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming spin-off, Ballerina. The news of Ana de Armas‘ involvement and Keanu Reeves’ anticipated cameo has me on the edge of my seat!
After the release of John Wick Chapter 4 and the prequel series focusing on The Continental, everyone’s attention has shifted towards the John Wick spin-off titled Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. This upcoming film not only presents a fresh character but also promises a cameo by John Wick himself. Excitingly, Ana de Armas herself has shared updates about Ballerina and its anticipated trailer release date.
Ana de Armas provides much awaited Ballerina movie update
At the Toronto International Film Festival, Ana de Armas discussed her upcoming historical drama “Eden” while also addressing reshoots for the John Wick spin-off. Furthermore, she spoke about the highly anticipated trailer for “Ballerina” and hinted at a possible release date.
During an interview with Perri Nemiroff at Collider, Ana de Armas explained the reason behind the reshoots for the film ‘Ballerina’. She stated: [Ana de Armas] disclosed that these additional filming sessions were required to improve certain scenes and ensure a high-quality final product.
Everything filmed during the re-shoots was essential and resulted in fantastic footage that looks absolutely stunning. I’ve been informed a trailer will be released shortly, and it’s truly a sight to behold. I am incredibly proud of what we have created.
She continued to praise the film with excitement, saying:
This new project is absolutely thrilling! It’s got an edge-of-your-seat intensity, a hint of allure, and it definitely reminds me of John Wick. I have a feeling that people might be quite taken aback. Now, I may be biased since I enjoy the movie myself, but I find it genuinely impressive. I’m convinced it’s going to be nothing short of extraordinary!
In addition, the actress detailed the process of the reshoots, which occurred only two weeks following her work on Eden. To prepare for this, she had to undergo a significant shift in both mindset and physique to revert to her previous state.
The film “Ballerina” unfolds somewhere within the timeframe between the third and fourth installments of “John Wick.” In this movie, Ana de Armas portrays the character Rooney, a dancer-turned-assassin seeking retribution as she tracks down those responsible for her family’s deaths.
In the information given earlier, it’s been noted that Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as Baba Yaga. Additionally, we can expect to see some familiar faces like Lance Reddick’s character Charon, Anjelica Huston portraying The Director, and Ian McShane in the role of Winston Scott.
In the fresh lineup of Ballerina’s actors are David Castañeda, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Len Wiseman is at the helm for this upcoming film, which is set to premiere in theaters on June 6, 2025.
