Gladiator II’s Denzel Washington Teases ‘Great’ Performances by Paul Mescal & Pedro Pascal

As a seasoned gamer and avid movie buff with a penchant for historical epics, I must say the upcoming sequel to Gladiator, titled Gladiator II, has me utterly thrilled! The prospect of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal facing off in the arena is nothing short of exhilarating. Their performances, as commended by none other than Denzel Washington, have already piqued my interest.

In the upcoming movie titled “Gladiator II”, Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal will face each other in a dramatic showdown. Even before its release on November 22nd, their performances have earned acclaim from fellow actor Denzel Washington.

What Did Denzel Washington Say About Gladiator II?

In an interview with Variety, Washington commended the performances of Mescal and Pascal in the “huge” sequel to Gladiator.

Washington stated to Variety that his co-stars in the Gladiator sequel were impressive, even going as far as saying they were fantastic. He acknowledged that it’s tough to match up to the original performance, but Paul managed to do so admirably, demonstrating his own unique prowess as a ‘gladiator’.

What was Washington’s role in the film?

As a gamer, I couldn’t believe how effortless it felt, just like sipping water with an air of sophistication. That was my role, they said. All I had to do was gently twist the glass or goblet and hold whatever else was in my other hand. The real challenge? Making sure not to trip over my gown while playing this royal character.

Washington concluded the talk about Gladiator II playfully hinting that a fresh trailer will be released on September 23rd.

In the headlines, Mescal stars in Gladiator II, taking on the role of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Commodus. Captured by the Roman army, he is compelled to undergo gladiator training. Pascal assumes the character of Roman general Marcus Acacius, while Washington portrays a weapons dealer named Macrinus.

Decades have passed since Lucius (Mescal) saw Maximus die, killed by his own uncle. Now, with his home overtaken by the cruel emperors who rule Rome mercilessly, Lucius is compelled to fight in the Colosseum. Driven by anger and the desire to restore the Empire’s honor, he must recall his past for strength and courage to reclaim Rome’s former glory.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that in the sequel to the legendary “Gladiator,” acting greats like Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and Derek Jacobi join the cast. Remarkably, Ridley Scott himself is back at the helm, with David Scarpa penning the script. It’s worth mentioning that Scott’s original “Gladiator” clinched five Oscars, among them the prestigious Best Picture award.
