Bryan Danielson Discusses Top WWE Star: What Did the AEW Champion Have to Say?

As a gamer who has lived through the golden age of wrestling and witnessed the epic battles between legends like Bryan Danielson and CM Punk, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment that their rivalry didn’t continue in AEW. The thought of seeing them square off once again inside the squared circle would have been an absolute treat for fans like me who cherish their epic encounters.

Bryan Danielson, the current AEW World Champion, had memorable feuds with John Cena, AJ Styles, Triple H, and CM Punk while working in WWE. Over the course of his WWE tenure, he’s been involved in iconic matches against John Cena, Triple H, and CM Punk. In a recent conversation, he touched upon his experiences with former AEW World Champion, CM Punk.

For a period of two years, both Punk and Danielson were associated with AEW. Notably, Punk first emerged on the August 20, 2021 episode of AEW Rampage. On the other hand, Bryan Danielson made his entrance slightly earlier, showing up at the conclusion of All Out to engage in a confrontation with The Elite.

The roots of their history stretch back to 2012 within the realm of WWE, where they were embroiled in a significant dispute. It was during this period that Danielson sought after CM Punk’s WWE Championship. As the conflict deepened, AJ Lee and Kane became entangled, making the narrative even more intricate. This feud remains iconic for its captivating storyline.

Although Punk left WWE in 2014 and Bryan Danielson exited in 2021, these notable figures found themselves together again in AEW, a platform that didn’t provide them with the chance to rekindle their legendary feud within the ring.

Bryan Danielson on not getting to work with CM Punk in AEW

Bryan Danielson, current AEW World Champion, recently sat down for an interview on Inside The Ropes. When asked about not having a match with CM Punk in AEW, he shared that he had anticipated this encounter but it didn’t come to pass. He mused over what a fantastic and enjoyable opportunity it would have been for him. In his own words, “It’s not sad, exactly. It was something I thought would happen that didn’t. So it’s more like, it would have been an amazing and fun experience for me.

It’s still uncertain why a fight between Danielson and Punk hasn’t been arranged. Notably, Punk’s time with AEW was short-lived, from the year 2021 to 2023. His contract was terminated by the promotion in September 2023 after an incident backstage with Jack Perry at AEW All In.
