Carmen Sandiego Game Announced With New Trailer

Carmen Sandiego Game Announced With New Trailer

As a lifelong fan who grew up with the original Carmen Sandiego games and the 90’s animated series, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming game! The idea of finally stepping into Carmen’s shoes instead of chasing after her is nothing short of exhilarating.

At long last, we’ll discover where on Earth Carmen Sandiego can be found. With a fresh trailer unveiled, the forthcoming Carmen Sandiego video game allows you to take charge of the main character.

What is the new Carmen Sandiego game?

The upcoming Carmen Sandiego game from Gameloft and HarperCollins Productions is a solo puzzle-adventure title. Unlike the Netflix animated series it echoes, this game is inspired by the 1980’s educational games. In this version, instead of chasing the thief, you get to play as the thief yourself.

In a recent IGN interview, the game’s publisher explains that instead of playing as the pursuer, players will now step into the shoes of Carmen Sandiego herself. This change provides a new perspective on the gameplay, enabling players to immerse themselves deeply in her world of espionage and international adventure. The character from the start of the trailer, who resembles the Player from the Netflix Series, is also a nod to the unseen live-action figure from the 1994 animated series. In this game, Player acts as Carmen’s sidekick, helping her navigate missions, solve puzzles, and outmaneuver VILE operatives. Players will therefore play the entire game through Carmen’s eyes.

Additionally, the one-player campaign will feature an old-school mode known as “The Acme Files.” Though specifics are yet to be revealed, the developers describe it as a nostalgic homage to the Carmen Sandiego games from the ’80s. Hidden within the game will be references to both the original titles and the Netflix show for players to discover like easter eggs.

In the first quarter of 2025, the Carmen Sandiego game is set to debut on Netflix. Simultaneously, it will also be released for personal computers, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch within the same time frame.

For fans eager for more Carmen Sandiego adventures, they can tune into the Netflix animated series. The final season, consisting of eight episodes, was released in 2021. Gina Rodriquez brings the title role to life, while Finn Wolfhard, Kari Wahlgren, Rafael Petardi, Bernardo de Paula, and Charlet Chung round out the talented voice cast.
