Is the NFL and its fans too concerned with Taylor Swift?

As someone who has been an ardent fan of both Taylor Swift and NFL for over a decade, I must say that the ongoing obsession with Swift’s presence at Kelce’s games is becoming a bit too much to handle. Don’t get me wrong, I love Swift as much as the next guy (or girl), but I can’t help but feel that there are more important things to discuss in the NFL world than who was sitting in the stands.

It’s well-known that Taylor Swift is an incredibly famous figure, so much so that she barely steps out without attracting a crowd.

Absolutely, conversations never cease, particularly when individuals are on the internet. Ever since Swift made her relationship with Travis Kelce public, she’s attended some of his games. When she initially appeared, all cameras were focused on her. However, gradually, the attention has begun to shift away from her.

For many NFL enthusiasts, Swift often seems unnoticed during games, with seldom instances where she was shown on screen. In fact, it appeared as though the broadcasters were making a deliberate effort not to highlight her presence. However, this could just be my observation. Regardless, the recurring chatter about Swift attending games and backing her boyfriend has become increasingly bothersome for NFL fans, becoming somewhat of a nuisance.

For more than ten years now, I’ve been a dedicated NFL fan, even going so far as to delve into reporting about the league. Yet, the constant focus among NFL fans on Taylor Swift feels relentless and excessive.

Is it too much to keep Taylor Swift out of the spotlight in the NFL?

To kick things off, it’s clear that the NFL will continue to feature Taylor Swift in some capacity, even if briefly. They have no intention of halting this practice. The reason? Swift has attracted an enormous fanbase to the NFL, and they are capitalizing on this. At its core, the NFL operates as a business, and having someone like Swift – who isn’t employed by them but still carries significant influence – is simply good public relations strategy.

It appears that a recurring concern among NFL fans revolves around excessive discussions about Taylor Swift’s NFL appearances, as well as media outlets covering these events extensively. I understand some of the criticism, but in reality, this situation is inevitable given that Swift currently holds the title of the world’s most popular musician. Unless she chooses to retreat from public life like she did before her album ‘reputation’, people will continue to talk about her.

Frankly speaking, it’s understandable that Swift might desire some privacy following her busy year. Between her numerous shows, catering to millions of fans, managing partnerships, and running a business, she must feel overwhelmed. In such circumstances, who wouldn’t prefer fewer cameras when attending events for their partner? Instead, it seems she craves a break – an opportunity to relax, have fun, and simply enjoy herself, much like everyone else needs when not at work.

Beyond this topic, sports broadcasts are centering around Taylor Swift instead of their usual content. If there’s nothing else to discuss other than Taylor Swift, that poses an issue. During the offseason, I’m confident there are far more significant stories to share such as your team’s prospects for the Super Bowl, week 1 predictions, or even a bit of fantasy analysis. Anything would be preferable to shining the light on someone who isn’t connected with sports events.

Despite sports media playing a part, it seems that non-Taylor Swift fans find themselves constantly commenting on her, making matters more intense. Those who claim they don’t care about her, surprisingly talk about her even more than genuine fans do, which can be irritating. As someone who has adored Taylor Swift since the release of her self-titled album in 2006 and have been a dedicated listener ever since, I personally believe that Taylor attending her boyfriend’s game isn’t particularly noteworthy news. Instead, it’s just another ordinary aspect in her already complex life, so maybe it’s best to simply move on from it.

Fans, regardless of their favorite topics, often find joy in negativity and causing distress to others. It’s unlikely that this behavior will change anytime soon. Consequently, we may continue to encounter discussions about a topic long past its prime. However, I was reminded of the truth when fans cheered for Travis Kelce’s appearance on Taylor’s show, an event we all enjoyed.

Hopefully, at some point, we’ll see glimpses of Taylor Swift enjoying her time as a WAG without having to hear from every Dad, Brad, and Chad about how she’s ruining football. Until then, let’s all blast “The Alchemy” and enjoy being miserable and magical, oh yeah!
