Before Netflix's potential One Tree Hill sequel series, here's where to watch the original

As a die-hard One Tree Hill fan who grew up with these characters, the news of the potential sequel series has me jumping for joy! I remember staying up late to watch new episodes back when it first aired on The WB, and now, here we are, 20 years later, with Brooke and Peyton returning to our screens. It’s like coming home after a long journey.

Here’s one way of paraphrasing: If you haven’t heard yet, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan are developing a sequel series for “One Tree Hill” on Netflix! These stars will be in front of and behind the camera as executive producers, with others expected to reappear too. The news has everyone eager to revisit the show that first captivated us all.

Once upon a time, all nine seasons of One Tree Hill could be found on Netflix. But sadly, the whole collection was taken off the platform as far back as 2017. It was on Netflix where many people first stumbled upon the series and managed to watch close to 200 episodes. Now, in anticipation of a possible sequel series being made by Netflix, you’ll have to find another place to stream it.

It’s great news for fans like us! Unlike many TV shows that don’t have a streaming platform, “One Tree Hill” can be found on TWO popular streaming services you might already be subscribed to. While we keep our fingers crossed for its return to Netflix, here are the platforms where you can enjoy every episode filled with dramatic twists and nostalgic thrills!

One Tree Hill is streaming on Hulu and Max

You can currently stream all nine seasons of “One Tree Hill” on both Hulu and Max. If you have subscriptions to both platforms, you’re free to pick which one suits your convenience for viewing. However, there are price variations that may influence those seeking the most cost-effective choice for their next “One Tree Hill” marathon session.

Watch on Hulu

Hulu provides “best of” episode compilations for popular ship pairings in shows, offering several subscription plans suitable for all consumers. The ad-supported plan costs $7.99 per month or $79.99 yearly, while the ad-free option is priced at $17.99 monthly. Additionally, Hulu offers Live TV packages and combinations with Disney+ and Max. Explore the different plans to find the one that best fits your needs.

Watch on Max

Max holds the rights to all nine seasons, but there aren’t any special box sets available. Similar to Hulu, Max provides various subscription packages, such as these: with ads ($9.99/month), ad-free ($16.99/month), and an ultimate ad-free version ($20.99/month). Each package also includes an annual option that offers a slight discount compared to the monthly cost. Choose the plan that works for you and start streaming all your preferred programs.

The possible sequel would take place 20 years later

Initially airing on The WB in 2003 (and later moving to The CW in 2006), the series “One Tree Hill” focused around the small town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. The show explored the intricate personal and family ties that permeated throughout the community, encompassing friendships, romances, sibling bonds, team camaraderie, paternal links, and filial connections. These relationships were always fragile, ever-changing, and undeniably dramatic. Given a potential revival, we can anticipate similar emotional turbulence.

In a modern twist, Bush and Burton reprise their roles as Brooke and Peyton, two characters who have matured over 20 years since their high school days. Now they are parents of teenagers themselves. Today’s teens grapple with many of the same challenges that Brooke and Peyton faced in the early 2000s – first loves, self-discovery, friendships, and body image concerns. However, this time around, these issues intersect with contemporary challenges such as social media pressures and a significantly different political climate. This new setting is bound to influence the development of the revamped storyline.

At this point, only Bush and Burton, along with Jensen and Danneel Ackles (who may reprise her character Rachel), are officially set to return to their well-known roles. Chad Michael Murray reportedly has no intentions of coming back as Lucas, but given the show is in its initial stages, it’s premature to determine who else might join the cast. For now, all we can do is wait and hope for the best.
