Don Cheadle Gives Hilarious Armor Wars Update for MCU Movie

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel enthusiast with over two decades of comic book knowledge under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tad frustrated by the ongoing saga of Armor Wars. Don Cheadle‘s recent joking response to inquiries about the project is reminiscent of Tony Stark’s witty one-liners, but it doesn’t exactly quell the curiosity brewing within us fans.

Over the last few years, there’s been a lot of uncertainty about the progress of Marvel Studios’ project Armor Wars. In a recent conversation, lead actor Don Cheadle playfully hinted at any new developments.

During a recent interview on the Today Show, Cheadle was inquired about the current state of Armor Wars. Laughing, Cheadle playfully responded, “What’s Armor Wars?” Continuing with his characteristic discretion, Cheadle revealed that he couldn’t share much information about the project due to Marvel’s customary penchant for secrecy.

What do we know about Armor Wars?

First introduced in 2020, Armor Wars was slated to become a Disney+ series based on the renowned 1987 comic book limited series of the same name. However, by 2022, the project underwent a transformation into a feature film, with no new information about its progress being disclosed by Marvel Studios since then.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly following the chatter surrounding Armor Wars since last year, with whispers suggesting that Marvel might be contemplating scrapping the project entirely. In an intriguing interview with GQ, Cheadle shed some light on the project, revealing that it would delve into his character stepping out of Tony Stark’s shadow and taking center stage in his own right.

As War Machine, Rhodey has been growing more independent from Iron Man in each film, but I feel we haven’t fully explored his character yet. This movie is an opportunity to delve deeper into who Rhodey truly is. Originally planned as a series, it will now be a standalone film titled Armor Wars. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.

First penned by David Michelinie and Bob Layton, spanning seven issues between December 1987 and June 1988, the comic narrative revolves around Tony Stark, a brilliant inventor, who uncovers that the classified technology he employed to craft Iron Man’s armor has fallen into the hands of lethal supervillains. Plagued by guilt over the destruction they’ve wrought with his invention, Stark vows, in defiance of opposition from his government, friends, peers, and fellow superheroes, to harness the power of Iron Man to eradicate this evil and reclaim what was rightfully his.
