As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in navigating complex societal issues, I find myself deeply saddened and concerned by the latest developments in the Malayalam film industry. The allegations of sexual harassment against prominent figures like Mukesh and Edavela Babu are distressing, to say the least.
Warning: This article discusses the sensitive topic of sexual harassment, which may cause distress or discomfort for certain individuals.
In a recent development, actor-turned-politician Mukesh and actor Edavela Babu were given anticipatory bail in a sexual assault case. This was granted by a court in Kochi, Kerala on Friday (September 6). Since the release of the Justice K. Hema Committee’s report on August 19, there has been growing concern about the treatment of women in the Malayalam film industry, leading to numerous accusations against prominent figures in the field.
As a diehard fan, I can’t help but share some troubling news that’s been making waves recently. It seems that Mukesh and Edavela Babu have found themselves in hot water following accusations of sexual abuse by a former Malayalam actress, Minu Muneer. In a bold move, she filed an FIR against no less than seven individuals, among them, Mukesh, Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu. This is certainly a story that’s worth keeping an eye on.
In a recent Facebook post, Minu Muneer shared that she experienced several instances of both physical and verbal abuse, which were inflicted upon her by Mukesh, Maniyan pilla raju, idavela Babu, Jayasoorya, adv Chandrasekaran, the production controller noble, and vichu, in the Malayalam film industry.
Afterward, the former actress shared her harrowing experience from 2013, detailing the physical and verbal abuse she endured. Despite the challenges at work, Minu persevered until the hardships became too much to bear. Following Minu Muneer’s complaint, actor and politician Mukesh demanded a ‘thorough and impartial investigation’.
11 individuals, among them ten from the film industry, have had cases filed against them by Kerala Police due to complaints lodged by female actors. The list includes Mukesh, Nivin Pauly, Siddique, Jayasurya, Edavela Babu, and Maniyanpilla Raju (actors/directors), Ranjith and V.K. Prakash (directors), as well as production executives Vichu, Baburaj, and Tulasidas.
In my role as a lifestyle guide, I’d like to share that currently, a dedicated group of 7 investigators are diligently gathering testimonies from those affected, the individuals who’ve bravely stepped forward with their grievances. However, at this moment, the focus remains on the suspect, as they have yet to be questioned directly.
The acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, A.Muhamed Mustaque, has additionally mandated the establishment of a unique two-judge panel consisting of Justices A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and C.S. Sudha. This special panel will review cases that will be generated following the Hema Committee report.
