As a long-time Chiefs fan, I must say I was taken aback by the turn of events in Xaviar Babudar‘s life, better known as Chiefsaholic. From his iconic wolf suit at Arrowhead Stadium to becoming a social media sensation, he truly embodied the spirit of our beloved team. However, the revelation of his bank robbery spree and subsequent sentencing have left me, like many fans, in a state of disbelief.
There’s been a lot of curiosity among sports enthusiasts about the whereabouts of Chiefsaholic, or Xaviar Babudar, a well-known Kansas City Chiefs superfan. In early 2024, this 30-year-old football devotee, famous for donning a full gray wolf suit and gaining social media fame, admitted guilt for multiple bank robberies he carried out. His notoriety has escalated to such an extent that a documentary about him is being produced by Amazon Prime, with rapper Drake among the executive producers. Here’s what we currently know regarding Chiefsaholic’s situation, including his arrest and sentencing details
What was Chiefsaholic arrested and sentenced for?
On Thursday, September 5, Xaviar Babudar, also known as Chiefsaholic, was handed a prison sentence of over 17 years by a federal judge, following his involvement in a series of 11 bank robberies between March 2022 and May 2023. According to ESPN, he managed to swipe over $800,000 across seven states, and tried to clean the money through various casinos and online gambling platforms by disguising its origin
In addition to his sentence, Babudar must repay more than half a million dollars ($532,000) as restitution and give up an original Patrick Mahomes-autographed painting
On December 16, 2022, Chiefsaholic was apprehended following a robbery at the Tulsa Teacher Credit Union in Bixby, Oklahoma. In March 2023, he tried to evade capture by disabling his GPS ankle monitor, but was eventually apprehended again in Sacramento, California in July 2023
Matthew Merryman, acting as Babudar’s legal representative, contended that his thefts stemmed from his compulsion towards gambling. However, representatives from the U.S. Attorney Office countered, suggesting that these actions were instead fueled by his passion for the Kansas City Chiefs and his craving for fame
In addition to the charges against him in Oklahoma, there’s a chance Babudar’s existing prison term could become longer still
An intriguing true-crime documentary titled “ChiefsAholic: Deceit in Chief’s Gear” is currently in production on Amazon Prime Video. This captivating series will delve into the meteoric rise of ChiefsAholic, who gained prominence at Arrowhead Stadium and across social media platforms, and his eventual fall from grace when he was apprehended for his wrongdoings
