Is Optimum down?

On Monday night, numerous Optimum customers in the New York metropolitan region encountered a substantial service interruption that started approximately at 8 p.m. local time. This issue primarily impacted internet and Wi-Fi connections for thousands of users. By 9 p.m., complaints about problems escalated significantly, with more than 9,700 customers reporting issues. Among these, around half (56%) had trouble accessing their landline internet, while roughly a quarter (25%) experienced a total shutdown of services – a noteworthy rise from the initial 18% reported earlier in the evening. The power outage also resulted in long waits and aggravation for Optimum’s customer service. Wait times increased significantly, reaching up to 35 minutes, and some customers were even kept on hold for more than an hour without a solution. This situation caused widespread dissatisfaction among the users, who vented their frustration on social media platforms.

9:45 PM, I received an update from Optimum’s official support account on X (previously Twitter): “We’re currently dealing with an outage that’s affecting all our services. Our team is tirelessly working to get things back up and running, but we don’t have a specific timeframe for the fix just yet. We truly value your patience as we work diligently to sort this issue out swiftly.”

The circumstances kept changing, as by 9:30 p.m. EST, over 10,000 disruptions were reported from New York City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. However, the company, Optimum, later announced that they had fixed the problem causing the service interruption. Their statement said, “We acknowledge the outage that led to the loss of all services. Currently, the problem has been resolved, and the service should be back up and running again. If you encounter any further issues, please let us know. We thank you for your patience during this process.”
