As a die-hard fan of South cinema, I can’t help but wonder what could have been if Allu Arjun and Rajinikanth had accepted the lead role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Imagine Rajini’s charisma paired with Salman Khan’s heartfelt performance! Or Arjun’s charm bringing life to the simple, humble character of Pawan. Alas, it was not meant to be, and we were left with the extraordinary performance by our beloved Bhai.
In the world of cinema, it’s not uncommon for Southern stars to be cast in Bollywood blockbusters. Yet, there have been instances where these actors turned down some highly sought-after roles in Hindi films that eventually became iconic. For example, Allu Arjun and Rajinikanth both declined Salman Khan’s leading part in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
For approximately four to five years prior to its release in 2015, filmmaker Kabir Khan was meticulously crafting the script for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The storyline was deeply emotional, prompting him to consider a variety of talented actors who could convincingly portray the lead character.
Initially, Salman Khan didn’t consider himself as the best fit for the role. Instead, he approached two well-known actors from the South film industry, Rajinikanth and Allu Arjun, to play the character of Pawan in the movie, opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.
According to Udayavani, they declined the roles for reasons they chose not to disclose. Later, Kabir Khan presented the script to Salman Khan, who accepted and joined the project.
The movie’s history was made when it garnered numerous awards, accolades, and impressive box office earnings. In truth, Salman’s role in the film received a great deal of praise, with audiences appreciating the authentic portrayal of his modest character.
During a conversation with Udayavani, Rockline Venkatesh shared that Allu Arjun and Rajinikanth were considered for the main character in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
For nearly four to five years, the script of “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” had been finalized. Offers were extended to Rajinikanth sir, Allu Arjun, among others, but for various reasons, they all declined. Eventually, director Kabir Khan presented the story to Salman Khan, who enthusiastically agreed to take on the project.
In terms of upcoming film roles, Allu Arjun will appear in Pushpa 2: The Rise, while Rajinikanth has lined up movies such as Vettaiyan and Coolie on his schedule.
