Report: Josh Brolin Offered DCU Hal Jordan Role in Lanterns

As a seasoned gamer and avid comic book fan, I must say that the news of Josh Brolin potentially joining the DC Universe as Green Lantern Hal Jordan has me absolutely buzzing! With his powerhouse performances as Thanos and Cable, it’s clear that he has the chops to bring Hal’s complex character to life.

Following his memorable portrayals as Thanos in the last two Avengers films and Cable in Deadpool 2, it appears that Academy Award-nominated actor Josh Brolin could be considering a role in another prominent superhero universe – potentially DC Studios’ forthcoming Green Lantern series.

The storyline unfolds around John Stewart and Hal Jordan, two cosmic enforcers, who find themselves entangled in a haunting, domestic case while probing a homicide in the Midwest of America.

As per Nexus Point News and The InSneider, it appears that Timothée Chalamet might be in talks to take on one of the main roles in the HBO’s Green Lantern series, with DC Studios considering him for the part of Hal Jordan, previously played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 Green Lantern film. Nevertheless, it remains undecided if Chalamet has agreed or declined to the offer at this stage.

Who’s involved in the Lanterns series?

The series “Lanterns” will be overseen by executive producers Chris Mundy (from “True Detective: Night Country” and “Ozark”), Damon Lindelof (“The Leftovers” and “Watchmen”) and Tom King (“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”). Notably, Lindelof and King are also contributing to the series’ script. The show was given a green light for immediate production at HBO in June 2024, about a year after the initial announcement of this 8-episode project back in January 2023.

“We’re excited to introduce this significant DC comic book series on HBO, and Chris, Damon, and Tom will lead the way. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most fascinating characters, and ‘Lanterns’ brings them to life in an innovative detective story that forms a crucial part of the unified DC Universe we plan to debut next summer with Superman.”
