Warner Bros., currently developing new movies based on the series, has reportedly reached out to him for a potential return as the mysterious wizard with the white beard.
At present, Sir Ian McKellen is recovering from an accident during a performance of Player Kings in London’s West End, but he expressed his keenness to reprise his role as Gandalf. In conversation with The Big Issue, he shared that his passion for The Lord of the Rings remains undiminished.
The actor added:
“I’ve recently learned that additional films are planned, and it’s expected that I might take on the role of Gandalf.”
When asked when he’ll return and other story details, he replied:
“When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick!”
Sir Ian McKellen expresses eagerness for the formal announcement of The Hunt for Gollum project, yet clarifies that he doesn’t envision retirement from acting anytime soon.
