Occasionally, it can be a challenge to discover films that suit everyone in the family. Often, they’re either too mature with adult themes or frightening for the younger ones, or conversely, they’re overly simplistic for the older teenagers. However, Netflix is offering some fantastic family-friendly movies during September 2024!

Throughout the month, you’ll find a blend of both animated and real-life footage in our film selection. Whether it’s a classic or a fresh release, there’s plenty of movies to keep everyone engaged during family movie nights. So even if they try to say “we’ve seen this before,” there will always be something new to watch!

These are the highly recommended family films scheduled for release during September 2024, with a few premieres happening as early as this very Sunday, the 1st of September!

Sonic the Hedgehog

Indeed, let’s discuss the 2020 film “Sonic the Hedgehog.” Initially, our feelings were uncertain about this movie. It might be that setting our hopes moderately allowed it to excel so remarkably.

In a turn of events, Sonic finds himself in a realm inhabited by humans, opting instead to savor its wonders. However, an unfortunate incident leads to him disrupting the power grid. Unbeknownst to him, this grabbing the unwanted attention of the eccentric and isolated Dr. Robotnik, who seeks to exploit Sonic’s powers for world domination.

Chicken Run

On a typical Yorkshire chicken farm, where many chickens are destined to continuously lay eggs, most of them resign themselves to their fate in the movie “Chicken Run”. However, an extravagant American rooster makes an entrance, causing a stir. The hens begin to harbor hope that this rooster can impart the secret of flight to them, enabling their daring escape.

Absolutely, chickens aren’t capable of flying. Yet, given the chance, they’ll try their best to get away, particularly when a device for making chicken pies is set up. Their survival instinct kicks in under such circumstances.

Shark Tale

Although Finding Nemo gained more popularity among animated fish films, Shark Tale has its own charm. It centers around Oscar, a small fish with big dreams, who prefers to achieve these dreams with minimal effort. This is achieved through weaving tales.

In simpler terms, the man brags about being the one who fatally wounded a notorious great white shark named Frankie, who had links with a criminal underworld. Unfortunately for this boastful individual, Frankie’s father learns about it and dispatches his goons to exact revenge for his deceased son. Oh dear!

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Indeed, this film truly shines when viewed during Halloween due to its chilling aspects, but it’s enjoyable all year round! The duo, Wallace and his canine companion Gromit, embark on their initial pest control venture. Not long after, they secure a client in the form of Lady Tottington.

In this scenario, the town’s crops are being destroyed by a mischievous rabbit, and Lady Tottington has enlisted the help of Wallace and Gromit to catch the culprit. As usual with Wallace and Gromit, there’s an amusing twist at the end that is characteristic of their adventures. Additionally, the animation style sets it apart from others as it employs clay figures throughout.

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is on Netflix today.

Uglies

“The animated series ‘Uglies’ might be better suited for your older children since it carries a PG-13 rating. This captivating tale delves into societal beauty standards and the direction our world is heading, making it a must-watch for those who appreciate dystopian themes. Originally penned by Scott Westerfield as a novel of the same name, ‘Uglies’ promises an engaging storyline that caters to fans of this genre.”

In a realm where everyone undergoes compulsory cosmetic surgeries to fit societal norms of beauty, Tally reaches her sixteenth birthday. Yet, in this world where everyone appears attractive, when Tally’s companions reveal the aftermath of such procedures, she chooses to live life outside these conventions, embarking on a quest to locate a missing friend.

Uglies is coming to Netflix on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Jaws

In reality, the Jaws films have a PG rating, but considering the level of fear they might instill in an eight-year-old, I’d categorize them more as PG-13. However, my 12-year-old would find them enjoyable, and we are planning to watch them together over this extended weekend.

In the “Jaws” film series, we encounter a fearsome shark that claims numerous lives. The horror commences when the shark takes the life of a woman, sparking discussions about whether to shut down the beach or not. Essentially, it’s a battle between safety and financial gain, and in this case, money prevails. Consequently, three individuals are compelled to venture out and confront the menacing shark, resulting in a struggle between man and beast.

All three Jaws movies are on Netflix today.
