Radhika Sarathkumar recalls instance of men using hidden cams to shoot women inside vanity vans in Kerala; ‘This system is wrong…’

As a dedicated follower of the Malayalam film industry, I find myself deeply disturbed and disheartened by the recent revelations made by Radhika Sarathkumar and the Hema Committee report. Having spent years watching these artists on screen, it’s heartbreaking to learn about the darker side of the industry that they’ve had to endure behind the scenes.

In a recent interview, Radhika Sarathkumar shared a troubling experience she had during a movie shoot in Kerala. During this conversation, she disclosed that some men had secretly installed cameras within the vanity vans to surreptitiously watch female actresses.

The actress disclosed to Asianet News that she discovered men peeping at a naked video of another actress on a screen within her dressing room, as she was getting dressed. When she realized this, she voiced her disapproval and inquired about the situation.

Although they were both on set during a film production in Kerala, the actress chose not to disclose any details about the individuals involved or the specific movie project. Moreover, she revealed that after this incident, she solely confined herself to her hotel room and became more cautious regarding her personal transportation vehicle (vanity van).

Regarding the issue at hand, Radhika expressed her concerns, stating, “I believe this setup is flawed. Following the unfortunate event, I alerted other female artists about concealed cameras. I became apprehensive to use my dressing room afterwards, as it’s a personal space for us to change, relax, or eat.”

In relation to the Hema Committee report’s disclosure, the actress’ recent statement has caused a stir within the Malayalam film industry, shedding light on the inner workings and the distressing conditions faced by female actors. Furthermore, this disclosure has led to accusations of sexual misconduct against some prominent artists in the industry.

The accusations directed at Jayasurya, Siddique, Mukesh, and numerous other actors have resulted in mass resignations from the Actors’ Association, AMMA. Even its president, Mohanlal, has relinquished his leadership position, with a new management to be established following elections in a couple of months.

Additionally, on August 31, 2024, Mohanlal spoke with the media, acknowledging the findings of the Hema Committee’s report and disclosing that he had provided statements directly to them as well.
