The original film was a masterpiece that left an indelible mark on me, and the thought of revisiting those characters after two decades is nothing short of exhilarating.

HBO has confirmed that the second season of “City of God: The Struggle Continues” is in development, following up on the acclaimed 2002 movie of the same name.

This newly released TV show, premiering this month, is actually a continuation of the movie, which was based on Paulo Lins’ 1997 novel with the same title. The storyline picks up 20 years after the original film, focusing on Wilson (Rocket), who re-enters the community as a young drug dealer’s release from prison threatens to reignite conflict in “City of God” once more.

This Brazilian series originates from producers Andrea Barata Ribeiro, Fernando Meirelle, Cris Abi, and Gustavo Gontijo. Mariano Cesar, Anouk Aaron, and Monica Albuquerque are the executive producers. The creative team consists of writers Sérgio Machado, Renata Di Carmo, Armando Praça, Estevão Ribeiro, Rodrigo Felha, and Aly Muritiba, with the latter also acting as the overall director.

In “City of God: The Battle Continues,” we find several familiar faces among the cast, such as Alexandre Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Kiko Marques, and Edson Oliveira, who reprise their roles from the initial series.
