Word on the street, or rather from Argentine journalist German Garcia Grova, is that we’ve thrown our hat in the ring at the last minute to snag Alan Varela from Porto. However, it seems the deal isn’t sewn up just yet, as there’s still a ways to go before this transfer becomes official.
According to Grova’s report, Porto will only consider releasing Varela this summer if his £75.6 million release clause is triggered. However, O Jogo previously mentioned that the termination fee in his contract stands at £55 million. Meanwhile, Alan Varela has publicly expressed his interest in joining Liverpool, as reported by Record. “We always aim to enhance our skills and advance to a league as significant as the Premier League,” the player said to ESPN about his aspirations.
Although Varela is eager to relocate, there hasn’t been any confirmation yet about his transfer. With a pressing need for a defensive midfielder following the loan of youngster Stefan Bajcetic, Liverpool has so far only added winger Federico Chiesa and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to their squad in this transfer window.
