PlayStation 5 fans aren’t impressed with the PS5 Pro design

As a long-time PlayStation enthusiast with a collection that spans multiple generations, I must confess that my initial reaction to the leaked PS5 Pro design was underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong; I’m always excited about the potential of new hardware and the games it promises to bring. However, the PS5 Pro, from what we’ve seen so far, seems more like a slightly elongated version of the existing Slim console rather than a true upgrade.

It appears that design details for an as-yet-unrevealed upgraded version of Sony’s PlayStation 5, tentatively called the PS5 Pro, have been leaked. This new model seems to share a striking resemblance to the existing PlayStation 5 Slim. However, following the widespread dissemination of these design images online, many fans seem underwhelmed by the idea of this mid-generation refresh.

Fans react to PS5 Pro

On the PlayStation 5 subreddit, followers have shown only moderate excitement about the latest console. Although the rumored PS5 Pro specifications seem intriguing, many people feel that the new console’s design is merely an extended version of the PlayStation 5 Slim in appearance.

Many enthusiasts found amusement in the console’s minor modification, which transformed the single black line on the Slim model into a trio of “speed stripes”, marking the sole significant design alteration from the previous hardware.

One PlayStation user commented, “I simply duplicated the console currently available. Later, I attached fins for reduced air drag. As for the racing stripe, I think it adds a nice touch of sharpness.”

Another gamer playfully remarked, “I could easily purchase this without my wife noticing,” to which a third replied casually, “It appears to just have ventilation slats on the sides.”

The lack of discs

At present, previews of the rumored PS5 Pro version do not include a disc drive. Initially, leaks showed only a disc-free model, but there’s speculation that the console may be compatible with an additional disc drive accessory similar to what was designed for the PS5 Digital Edition.

“One PlayStation user expressed frustration, saying, ‘I might get quite upset if I end up spending over $600 on this gaming console and an additional $80 for its disc drive.'”

“Another individual expressed some dissatisfaction, stating that the CD drive is increasingly appearing as an extra accessory rather than a built-in feature. They now prefer a detachable unit placed alongside the main device, rather than an unsightly protrusion on what could otherwise be a streamlined design.”

“A third gamer stated that if there’s no CD/DVD drive, they wouldn’t find it appealing, even if the detachable one functions technically. They are against the idea of abandoning traditional physical media.”

Currently, as I’m typing this, Sony hasn’t officially announced the PS5 Pro yet, but there are strong indications that they will make an announcement about it before the year ends.
