Actor Kay Kay Menon returns with another intense portrayal in his upcoming web show, “Murshid”. After creating a stir with his performance in Jio Cinema’s Shekhar Home, Menon is ready to take on a new character in this action-packed drama that explores the dark corners of Mumbai’s criminal underworld. Here’s what you should know about this eagerly awaited series.

What is Kay Kay Menon’s Murshid release date on ZEE5?

On August 30, 2024, Murshid will make its debut on ZEE5. This eight-episode series is a dramatic production directed by Shravan Tiwari and produced by Sandeep Patel. The trailer that was recently released gives a tantalizing sneak peek into the show’s intriguing plotline, which seems to be a blend of crime, action, and intense drama. It looks set to be an engaging series that viewers will find hard to resist binge-watching.

In the preview for the movie titled “Murshid,” we see an exhilarating narrative unfold, with Kay Kay Menon portraying Murshid Pathan, a former gangster who once ruled the underworld. However, his peaceful retirement is disrupted by unexpected events that force him back into the treacherous criminal realm. This turn of events occurs when Farid (played by Zakir Hussain) entangles Murshid’s son in a risky plot.

When Murshid goes back to his underworld operations for the sake of his family, he gets entangled in a network of treachery featuring Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana (Tanuj Virvani). It turns out that Kumar, who is also Murshid’s adopted son, is being used by the cunning politician Jayendra (Rajesh Shringarpure). The intricate plot thickens as Murshid battles to preserve his heritage while facing escalating perils. This situation is succinctly summed up by Murshid when he declares, “Don’t underestimate my age—I will bring you down!”

According to The Tribune’s report, the actor mentioned that the trailer only hints at his character’s journey. It’s a tale about a father’s lengths to support his family, which many people might identify with. He’s excited for audiences to delve deeper into Murshid’s story.

The show is created jointly by Fathom Pictures and Pramukh Film Production, featuring music by Kunal Karan. Shravan Tiwari not only takes the director’s chair for this production but also penned the script himself.

Murshid cast: Kay Kay Menon, Tanuj Virvani & more

In this production, Murshid is joined by a distinguished group of actors, including Kay Kay Menon. Tanuj Virvani assumes the role of Kumar Pratap Rana, while Zakir Hussain portrays Murshid’s adversary, Farid. Rajesh Shringarpure takes on the character of the cunning politician Jayendra. The series also includes Anang Desai as part of the main cast.

Kay Kay Menon expressed his enthusiasm about embodying his character in this intense gangster thriller. As reported by The Tribune, he mentioned, “Portraying Murshid Pathan was an exhilarating experience for me. I’ve always been captivated by intricate characters, and Murshid fits the bill perfectly – a reformed mob boss turned philanthropist who is compelled to re-enter the criminal underworld to safeguard his family.”

Beyond sharing his views, Zakir Hussain explained the show’s truthfulness in a recent interview. He made it clear that although the series draws inspiration from Mumbai’s criminal underworld, it is not an accurate portrayal of history but rather a work of fiction. In simpler terms, he said, “This story is fictional, inspired by Mumbai’s past. I’ve been part of many such stories based on the underworld, so this one also falls into that category.”

He also remarked, “There’s a moment when they collide. The tale unfolds with some event affecting them on a personal note, leading them to take up arms once more, having previously retired.” On another occasion, Hussain stated that the narrative delves into the connection between crime and politics, illustrating how characters become entangled, prosper, and ultimately find themselves pulled back in.

Beyond this, Tanuj Virwani, the son Murshid adopted, offered a preview of his character. “Kumar Pratap Rana is a man grappling with divided loyalties,” he stated. “Having been brought up by Murshid following the loss of his biological parents, Kumar calls into question Murshid’s role in his sorrowful past. Regardless of his internal struggles, Kumar’s affection for his adoptive father endures. The series delves into topics such as loyalty, family, and inner turmoil in an engaging way.”

Additionally, he mentioned that being a member of the cast for Murshid has been nothing short of extraordinary, particularly since I’ve had the privilege of working with acting greats like Kay Kay Menon and Zakir Hussain.

As August 30th’s release date gets closer, excitement for the upcoming series keeps growing.
