Speleologist god roll – Destiny 2

Speleologist god roll - Destiny 2

As a seasoned Guardian with countless hours logged in the crucible and beyond, I must say that the Speleologist Machine Gun is an intriguing addition to Destiny 2’s ever-evolving arsenal. While it may not be a PvP powerhouse, its unique perks make it a formidable weapon for those brave souls who dare to venture into the darkest corners of the cosmos.

In the most recent additions to Destiny 2 during the Echoes episode, a Machine Gun character called the Speleologist has been introduced. This weapon specializes in Solar damage and offers appealing perks for players focusing on Player versus Environment (PvE). Although it’s not marketed as an all-powerful PvE weapon, there are several desirable combinations to strive for with this Speleologist god roll.

How to get Speleologist

The Speleologist, a new machine gun, is obtained from Act 3 of Destiny 2’s Episode: Echoes. This weapon can drop during any Echoes activity. Once you’ve collected five weapons with red borders (signifying rarity), you can craft it. To acquire the Deepsight Resonance versions, you need to advance through Act 3 and then purchase them from Failsafe.

Speleologist god roll – PvE

A cave explorer boasts several unique advantages over most of the machine guns available in the gameplay environment. With a firing rate of 900 rounds per minute, it packs quite a punch, making effective control crucial, and taking full advantage of its rapid-fire capabilities is essential.

BarrelArrowhead Brake (Recoil Direction +30, Handling +10)
MagazineTactical Mag (Magazine +7, Reload Speed +10, Stability +5)
Perk 1Envious Assassin (Defeating targets with other weapons before drawing this one transfers ammo to the magazine from reserves. This effect can overflow the magazine based on the number of targets defeated)
Perk 2One For All (Hitting three separate targets increases damage for a moderate duration)
Origin TraitRadiolaria Transposer (Rapid final blows cause targets to explode into a pool of radiolarian fluid)
MasterworkStability
ModBackup Mag

Typically I’d choose Fluted Barrel, but Speleologist has a concerning sideways recoil, so you’ll want to adjust that using Arrowhead Brake instead. Next, use Tactical Magazine for improved reload speed and more rounds in the clip. You can enhance this even further with the Backup Magazine mod.

The collaboration between Envious Assassin and One For All is quite impressive. By doing so, you’ll double your magazine capacity, and once you hit three distinct targets, you’ll receive a 35% damage increase for a duration of 10 seconds. This boost should continuously refresh if there are enough enemies nearby.

Some might see Heal Clip as a viable option, but the last thing you want to do with a Machine Gun is spend time reloading – leave that for Primary weapons. Additionally, if you want something with Incandescent, go and farm for a Fixed Odds.

Speleologist god roll – PvP

In the Crucible, Machine Guns operating at high RPMs aren’t common, but don’t underestimate Speleologist’s effectiveness. Most of its perks, however, are primarily designed for Player versus Environment (PvE) scenarios.

Origin TraitRadiolaria Transposer (Rapid final blows cause targets to explode into a pool of radiolarian fluid)

ModCounterbalance Stock

Instead of using Arrowhead Brake and Counterbalance Stock directly in the mod slot, consider enhancing the gun’s recoil control with these attachments. For improved combat effectiveness at longer ranges, opt for Accurized Rounds and a range Masterwork as well. These modifications should make the weapon more comfortable to handle overall.

Regarding benefits, there’s not much that sets Crucible apart with its offerings. You won’t find enough ammo for Slideways, Heal Clip, or Enlightened Action here. However, Firmly Planted effectively increases several important stats to enhance Speleologist’s performance. Additionally, Strategist comes in handy for replenishing your class ability energy, which ultimately improves the gun’s performance as well.

In summary, Speleologist primarily excels in Player versus Environment (PvE) combat, serving as a formidable machine gun, especially when crafted with an optimal build. For PvP, there are superior alternatives, but skilled players can adapt Speleologist to perform well in the Crucible. Discover more ideal builds for Speleologist in our Destiny 2 Tactics Guide.
