EXCLUSIVE: Parvathy Thiruvothu talks about surrendering to Pa Ranjith's vision while filming Thangalaan, says 'he has such faith..'

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinematic excellence and personal growth, I find myself deeply moved by Parvathy Thiruvothu‘s insightful words during the TopMob Masterclass. Her experience on the set of Thangalaan, under the visionary direction of Pa Ranjith, offers an inspiring lesson for all artists and aspiring creators.

The movie titled Thangalaan, starring Chiyaan Vikram along with Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan, among others, hit theaters on August 15. Directed by Pa Ranjith, it garnered favorable feedback from both audiences and critics. Due to its tremendous success, the film will be screened in Hindi version starting September 6.

Before the Hindi premiere of Thangalaan, the main cast, including director Pa Ranjith, participated in a TopMob Masterclass led by Himesh Mankad. At this event, actress Parvathy was asked about her perspective on her character within the film, considering the obstacles she encountered during production.

In response to the question, Parvathy explained that she learned early on not to try and visualize scenes as depicted in a script because that is primarily the director’s responsibility. If an actor attempts this, it can lead to a significant mismatch between the director’s expectations and the actor’s interpretation. To avoid this, she would ask more questions to fully grasp the director’s vision, ensuring she doesn’t get too caught up in her own thoughts.

She also mentioned, “The movie offered a unique form of education. Upon listening to the narration for the first time, no amount of script reading could have prepared me for the actual on-set experience. Absolutely nothing. I saw Ranjith evolve right before our eyes, day by day. Whether he was succeeding or faltering, he was simultaneously growing through it. We were simply his team to help him achieve this growth.”

Parvathy reminisced about her time working with Pa Ranjith and Chiyaan Vikram, expressing that Ranjith’s wholehearted immersion in the project made it difficult not to follow suit. After a while, her questions subsided as she found her ideal co-star in Thangalaan, and Ranjith trusted us both. He even told us “do your thing, and keep going until you get it right. If things are really off track, I’ll let you know. Otherwise, you know what you’re doing.” Ranjith’s unwavering confidence influenced Parvathy to reconsider her approach to working on set.

Currently, Parvathy is gaining recognition for her portrayal of Arasani in Thangalaan alongside Chiyaan Vikram. Her role has been applauded by the audience. More recently, she was awarded Best Actress at the International Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) for her outstanding performance in the Malayalam film Ullozhukku.
