Amazon anime MMO Blue Protocol killed before Western release

Amazon anime MMO Blue Protocol killed before Western release

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing the news about Blue Protocol’s cancellation. I remember the buzz surrounding its announcement at The Game Awards back in 2022, and I was genuinely excited for another quality anime MMO to add to my collection.

Unfortunately, it appears that the eagerly awaited MMO game Blue Protocol will not launch its Western version as planned. Initially marketed alongside popular games such as New World, this Amazon-published multiplayer RPG has been abruptly canceled, leaving English-speaking gamers disappointed and without access to the game.

Blue Protocol killed before release

Even though you’re already residing in Japan, there was significant excitement in America and Europe for the upcoming launch of Blue Protocol. However, unexpectedly, the MMO developed by Bandai Namco is set to shut down prematurely in the coming year.

According to a recent announcement from Bandai Namco, Blue Protocol is set to cease operation in early 2025 for all players, with the shutdown scheduled for January 18, 2025, specifically for Japanese gamers.

Bandai Namco has shared that they’ve had a robust partnership with Amazon Games during the creation of Blue Protocol, but unfortunately, they won’t be able to release the game globally as initially planned, according to their official statement on their website.

Although the game won’t be available in Western regions, the developer has been diligently working on its localization process.

The company stated, “We’ve put in considerable effort to get ready for the launch, but unfortunately, we find ourselves unable to deliver a service that meets everyone’s expectations.”

A sad end

Blue Protocol initially made its debut at The Game Awards in 2022, following years of development that started back in 2015. There’s been a lot of excitement among anime enthusiasts in the Western world, but unfortunately, the Japanese launch didn’t live up to the anticipation.

To those who played it, Blue Protocol offered a fresh and enjoyable spin on massively multiplayer online games (MMOs). Regrettably, it remains uncertain as we cannot confirm this experience.
