Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Begins Filming, BTS Photos Revealed

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the cosmos of Star Trek games, the news about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has me positively beaming! I’ve always dreamt of being part of the crew, and now it seems like I might just get my chance – albeit vicariously through these young cadets.


The production for “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” is now underway, as evidenced by recently unveiled backstage images featuring the cast of Paramount+’s upcoming Star Trek show.

The latest addition to the Star Trek world is a coming-of-age TV series that focuses on a group of young trainees, who are learning to be officers, and encountering challenging adversaries along the way. This production is overseen by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, who also take charge of the show’s direction.

According to the summary, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will present a group of young trainees who unite to chase a shared ideal of optimism and hope. As they are closely monitored by their strict mentors, they learn the requirements to become Starfleet officers while experiencing blossoming friendships, intense rivalries, first romantic encounters, and a new adversary that endangers both the Academy and the Federation itself.

Who stars in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy?

Titled Starfleet Academy will welcome Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner. Notably, Academy Award winner Holly Hunter has been added to the cast, portraying both the captain and chancellor.

In addition to some well-known actors, several familiar figures are coming back to take on their past Star Trek roles. These include Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery) portraying Jett Reno, Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Prodigy) as The Doctor, Oded Fehr (Star Trek: Discovery) as Admiral Charles Vance, and Mary Wiseman (Star Trek: Discovery) as Sylvia Tilly. Meanwhile, Paul Giamatti and Gina Yashere will join the series as recurring guest stars.
