As a seasoned gamer who’s had my fair share of NFL Madden seasons, I can’t help but feel like I’m playing a well-timed Hail Mary pass with JuJu Smith-Schuster joining the Kansas City Chiefs once again. After a tumultuous tenure with the Patriots that seemed to be as fruitful as a game of Candy Crush on easy mode, it’s refreshing to see him return to familiar territory.
JuJu Smith-Schuster is making news recently with reports of him re-signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Last year, he played for them and delivered crucial performances as they clinched the Super Bowl victory. However, after that, he moved to the New England Patriots in 2023, thus concluding his time with the Chiefs. But it seems that the wide receiver has now agreed to a contract with his former team before the start of the new season.
Is JuJu Smith-Schuster joining the Kansas City Chiefs?
As reported by ESPN, it appears that JuJu Smith-Schuster is now part of the Kansas City Chiefs team. On Monday, he was spotted participating in practice while wearing their uniform.
Throughout most of his NFL career, JuJu Smith-Schuster represented the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, in 2022, he signed a one-year contract with Kansas City instead. During his solitary season at Arrowhead Stadium, he successfully caught 78 passes for a total of 933 yards. At the end of that agreement in 2023, Smith-Schuster was formally let go from the Chiefs’ team roster.
2023 saw JuJu Smith-Schuster, a highly sought-after free agent, receive a three-year contract worth $25 million from the Patriots. However, his performance with the team in the following season was lackluster, with just 29 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games. As a result of this underperformance, the Patriots chose to release him less than a year after signing him.
In an unexpected twist of events, JuJu Smith-Schuster has joined forces once more with the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs. Initially, they had already acquired free agent Marquise Brown for the same position held by Smith-Schuster and also selected wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the first round to enhance their receiving corps. However, Brown suffered a shoulder dislocation during preseason, leaving his readiness for the upcoming season uncertain. In light of this development, it’s believed that the Chiefs have negotiated a contract with JuJu Smith-Schuster as a precautionary measure.
