Association of Malayalam Movie Artists issues official statement after Mohanlal resigns as President amid Hema Committee row

As a lifelong fan of Mohanlal and the Malayalam film industry, I find it heartening to see such a swift response to the allegations that have been surfacing recently. The resignation of Mohanlal and the entire executive committee of AMMA is a testament to their commitment to upholding integrity and justice within the industry. It’s important to remember that these are just accusations at this point, but it’s essential to investigate them thoroughly and take appropriate action if wrongdoing is found.

On Tuesday, August 26, well-known actor Mohanlal chose to relinquish his position as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), and all other committee members also resigned en masse, in response to the grave accusations levied against several prominent figures within the Malayalam film industry.

After Mohanlal stepped down, AMMA released an official announcement stating that the entire executive committee had disbanded due to all members collectively submitting their resignations. This action was taken in response to the severe accusations leveled against several well-known figures within the committee.

After the publication of the Hema Committee report, individuals on the administrative committee of the AMMA organization have been under public scrutiny across various media platforms due to sexual misconduct accusations. With these allegations in mind, the current leadership of AMMA has chosen to accept moral accountability and collectively step down. A new leadership team will be chosen at a general meeting within the next two months. Until then, the existing leaders will carry on their duties in an interim role to ensure that AMMA’s operations, including healthcare and support services for its valued members, continue smoothly.

We’re optimistic that fresh leadership will emerge for AMMA, revitalizing and fortifying the committee. Thank you all.

As a die-hard fan, let me shed some light on an intriguing matter: Previously, there was a prestigious executive committee that has since ceased to exist. Notable figures from the world of acting graced this committee, individuals like Joy Mathew, Tovino Thomas, Jagadish, Jayan Cherthala, Tini Tom, Baburaj, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suresh Krishna, Ananya, Sarayu, Jomol, Ansiba, and Vinu Mohan (and many more) were part of this esteemed group.

Previously, the actor known as Siddique stepped down from his role as General Secretary within the AMMA following allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him by a young performer.

After leaving his position due to accusations of misconduct, Ranjith additionally relinquished his role as Chairman of the Kerala State Film Academy.
