After Geetha Vijayan, actress Sridevika accuses filmmaker Thulasidas of behaving inappropriately with her on sets of Avan Chandiyude Makan

As an ardent follower of the Malayalam film industry, it is heart-wrenching to witness such harrowing accounts from our beloved actresses like Sridevika and Geetha Vijayan. Their bravery in coming forward and sharing their experiences highlights the long-standing issue of harassment within the industry.

Following some severe accusations made by Geetha Vijayan against filmmaker Thulasidas in the Malayalam film industry, Sridevika stepped forward to share her own troubling experience. In an interview with local media outlets, she recounted that during the production of Avan Chandiyude Makan (2006), Thulasidas exhibited improper behavior towards her. She explained that even though she was accompanied by her mother, Thulasidas persistently knocked on the door to her room late at night for more than just one day, continuing this disturbing behavior for the following four days.

After the recent event unfolded, I found myself deeply worried about Sridevika’s well-being on the movie set. In a bid to address this concern, I shared my apprehensions with another fellow actor and, fortunately, we were able to secure a new room to distance ourselves from the filmmaker. As reported by Onmanorama, the courageous actress disclosed that she had brought this matter to the attention of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) back in 2018.

Unfortunately, AMMA failed to respond to her complaint back then.

In a similar fashion, Geetha Vijayan spoke up during the Hema Committee examination, stating that director Thulasidas persistently approached her door and even phoned her room while she was filming Chanchattam. Although she emphasized that no physical harm occurred, she disclosed an unpleasant encounter.

In 1991, when I first stepped into the world of cinema as a novice, I encountered an unpleasant situation. I swiftly asserted myself and made it clear where my boundaries lay. This choice, unfortunately, labeled me as an outsider in the eyes of many. Standing up for oneself often means forfeiting opportunities. If roles come my way, I welcome them; if not, I am at peace with that. Recent events, including the Hema Committee report, have brought these past experiences to light.
