PS5 Pro developers directly address system at Gamescom

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation at the prospect of Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro. The cat is out of the bag, and it seems that even the developers themselves can no longer keep the secret.

The news that Sony’s advanced model of PlayStation 5, dubbed as PlayStation 5 Pro, has been a widely anticipated secret in the gaming world, and game creators are no longer able to contain their excitement about it. As per recent reports, several PS5 Pro developers openly talked about this system during Gamescom 2024.

As I’ve been diving into the game files of No Man’s Sky and browsing through online listings for the next-gen PS5 controllers, it feels like the release date for the PS5 Pro is getting closer by the day. And to make things even more exciting, developers have openly admitted they’re working on something new – so a stronger PlayStation might be right around the corner!

PS5 Pro developers spill the beans

Based on a report from TweakTown, several game developers at Gamescom 2024 spoke about the rumored PS5 Pro. According to TweakTown, who has a strong reputation for accuracy, this system was considered an “unspoken truth” among developers, with many openly talking about the upcoming console in their discussions.

According to TweakTown’s report, an Italian video game creator has confessed to postponing their title in order to incorporate support for the PS5 Pro. Moreover, this developer asserts that the upcoming system will offer improved performance when running Unreal Engine 5 games, which has been a challenge for current console generations.

Despite neither Sony nor the developers officially confirming the existence of a PS5 Pro, developers were still discussing it at Gamescom.

After introducing the slimmer version of PlayStation 5, gamers anticipated an immediate launch of a Pro model. Contrary to these expectations, Sony is now believed to unveil the mid-generation upgraded system during this year’s Tokyo Game Show, perfectly timed for a holiday release.

Nevertheless, the existence of the Pro system is still unconfirmed, despite the large amount of evidence.

How powerful is the Pro?

The upcoming Sony PlayStation 5 promises significantly enhanced power over its previous model, as suggested by recent reports. This upgrade is said to feature a 45% faster System on Chip (SoC), along with substantially improved ray-tracing capabilities.

Moreover, Sony is developing a competing technology called PSSR (Sony’s Spatial Scene Reconstruction) to rival Nvidia’s DLSS. This innovative upscaling technique aims to enhance the system’s resolution capabilities.
