As a gamer who has seen his fair share of roller coaster plots in RPG games, I must say that “Romance in the House” is giving me the same thrilling vibe. The way the story unfolds, with twists and turns every episode, reminds me of a well-crafted quest in a game.

In episode 5 of “Romance in the House,” broadcasted on both JTBC and Netflix this past Saturday, August 24, 2024, we delved into a heartfelt family drama. The story centers around a man’s quest to regain his family’s love after a ten-year absence. Key actors in this production include Ji Jin-Hee, Son Na-Eun, Kim Jee-Soo, and Choi Min-Ho, each delivering captivating performances.

Previously, Ae-Yeon (Jee-Soo) discovered that Moo-Jin (Jin-Hee) had come back. The summary for Episode 4 states, “Moo-Jin manages to prove his innocence regarding the fire incident. Later on, Ae-Yeon suddenly vanishes, causing a hectic family gathering at the police station.”

In the start of episode 5, we delve into a flashback showing the day Moo-Jin and Ae-Yeon got married. Instead of having a traditional wedding, they took a studio photo symbolizing their union. They vowed to love each other forever. Unfortunately, Moo-Jin couldn’t fulfill his responsibilities as a family man and left Ae-Yeon a decade ago. Now, he’s back, aiming to recover what he lost 10 years ago.

Episode 5 of Romance in the House features a brief encounter between Moo-Jin and his former flame, Jeong-In, in Thailand, following his departure from Korea. They found themselves enamored with each other, but eventually went their separate ways.

The day after, finding myself in a heated situation with my daughter Na-Eun (Mi-Rae), I sternly advise her to keep her nose out of my current predicament with Moo-Jin. As the evening unfolds, Moo-Jin endeavors to win favor with his ex-wife, who graciously agrees to dine with him. Post-dinner, tensions escalate as I verbally reprimand him for his frivolous spending habits, fearing another financial collapse might be looming.

In response, Moo-Jin states that Ae-Yeon is the only woman for him. He questions, “Why you?” To which Moo-Jin suggests, “Perhaps you should consider dating someone else and moving on.” This advice leaves Moo-Jin heartbroken. Eventually, he departs from the restaurant when Ae-Yeon says he doesn’t fit within her small family circle.

While Tax Accountant Jae-Geol is devising a scheme against Moo-Jin, he perceives Ae-Yeon as an obstacle to his strategy. Conversely, Ae-Yeon spends the day with Mi-Rae and shares that her determination to divorce Moo-Jin years ago stemmed from her daughter’s strength.

Later in the evening, Mi-Rae encounters Tae-Pyeong (Min-Ho from SHINee), and his actions cause her heart to race. Nevertheless, Mi-Rae feels apprehensive about getting too close to him. In a brusque manner, she tells him, “Your kindness towards me irritates me.” This leaves Tae-Pyeong puzzled about her conduct and his own feelings for her.

One evening, Ae-Yeon encounters a tipsy Jeong-In outside their apartment building. She brings Jeong-In inside and stumbles upon an old photograph of Jeong-In with Moo-Jin. This reminds Ae-Yeon of how and when they first became friends. However, seeing the photo leaves Ae-Yeon feeling disheartened, suspecting that her ex-husband might have been romantically involved with Jeong-In. Trying to address the issue, Ae-Yeon struggles to express her feelings effectively.

In episode 5 of Romance in the House, Tae-Pyeong lends a helping hand to Mi-Rae once more. As they walk along the sandy beach, she encounters her father, Moo-Jin. Mi-Rae voices her displeasure at his arrival, but Moo-Jin assures her that he aims to rectify past mistakes.

Afterward, the meeting between the father and daughter takes place once more. Moo-Jin gives a promise, vowing to follow through on his daughter’s wishes by relinquishing ownership of certain assets. Ae-Yeon stands to receive all of her father’s property as a result. This decision enrages Mi-Rae and she advises him that he cannot depart until he addresses the matter concerning their son, Hyeon-Jae, who was apprehended for skipping school earlier. Upon learning that his father had returned, Hyeon-Jae decides to drop out of school and start a business instead. Consequently, Mi-Rae instructs her father to assume responsibility for his son and raise him properly before departing.

At the closing moments of the show, Ae-Yeon challenges Moo-Jin on his connection with Jeong-In. At first, he appears taken aback, but eventually, he queries if her concern might stem from jealously.
