'He can't be an actor...': When Mohanlal opened up about his advice to son Pranav before his debut

As a dedicated follower of Malayalam cinema, I have had the privilege to witness the exceptional journey of Mohanlal, one of India’s greatest actors. His performances are unparalleled, but it is his humility and commitment to family that truly sets him apart.

Mohanlal, without a doubt, stands as one of the most prominent actors in Indian cinema, renowned not only for his outstanding on-screen performances but also for being a dedicated family man. He skillfully balances his professional commitments with his familial responsibilities, always choosing to prioritize his loved ones above all else. In 2017, he shared insights about his son’s acting debut alongside Aadhi, expressing that their familial bond does not automatically guarantee success in the acting industry.

During a chat with Onmanorama, Mohanlal expressed that Pranav is currently gearing up for his movie role. When asked about guidance on acting and preparation, Mohanlal stated he cannot turn Pranav into an actor; instead, it’s up to him to demonstrate his talent and potential. He emphasized that being the son of an actor doesn’t automatically make one a successful actor. However, Mohanlal can assist by providing opportunities. Ultimately, success will depend on fate, and it would be remarkable if audiences embrace Pranav as they have embraced Mohanlal.

Beyond this, the actor shared some insights about his boy, Pranav, who spends a considerable amount of time on travel and has a passion for reading literature. Furthermore, Mohanlal disclosed that various screenplays have been presented to his son in the past, but he consistently turned them down.

In case you’re not aware, Pranav Mohanlal, son of the renowned actor Mohanlal, served as an assistant director on the Kamal Haasan-starring film, Paapanasam. This is a Tamil adaptation of the Malayalam mystery drama, Drishyam, which he also starred in. Notably, Pranav played the leading role in Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu, a movie that premiered in 2019.

Additionally, this film actor made his initial appearance as a young performer with a supporting character in “Onnaman” back in 2002. Subsequently, he took on a leading role in “Punarjani,” earning him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist in 2003.

In terms of his professional life, Mohanlal will appear in the upcoming movie titled Barroz. What makes this film unique is that it will also serve as his directorial debut. Originally scheduled for release, Barroz has been pushed back and is now anticipated to hit theaters on October 3, 2024.

In this upcoming movie, Mohanlal takes on the role of Barroz, the treasure guardian. Joining him are a talented group of actors including Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon, and Guru Somasundaram, who all play crucial parts. Additionally, keep an eye out for Mohanlal in his eagerly anticipated film L2:Empuraan.

The film represents Lyca Productions’ inaugural venture into the Malayalam cinema sector. Besides Mohanlal, actors such as Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith, and Manju Warrier are also involved in this production. Furthermore, it’s rumored that both Mohanlal and Mammootty will appear together in the movie, following reports.
