As a longtime fan and follower of sports, I am beyond thrilled to see Stephen Nedoroscik, the “Pommel Horse Guy,” take center stage in this year’s Dancing with the Stars! His Olympic accomplishments are nothing short of amazing, and it’s heartwarming to see him use his platform to support those with low vision, a cause close to his own heart.

Every four years, I marvel at the incredible athletes who grace the Olympics stage, demonstrating their exceptional skills and cementing their place as top-tier competitors globally, representing their countries with pride while vying for Olympic medals. Standing on that podium is an unparalleled honor, whether it’s claiming bronze for third place, silver for second, or the coveted gold for first. Being an Olympic medalist is a true testament to hard work, dedication, and talent.

Over the summer, during the Olympics held in Paris, France, gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik captivated audiences worldwide with his extraordinary skills demonstrated on the pommel horse apparatus, creating a social media frenzy.

1. He was instrumental in guiding the U.S. men’s gymnastics squad to claim the bronze medal, marking the first time the U.S. had secured a medal in team events since 2008. Additionally, he earned the bronze medal individually for his exceptional performances on the pommel horse.

Known affectionately as “Pommel Horse Guy,” 25-year-old athlete Nedoroscik has won over the nation with his skills, aiming to secure another victory now.

He is the initial celebrity revealed for the 33rd series of the widely recognized ABC series, Dancing with the Stars – a show where famous personalities team up with skilled dancers to display various dance styles.

The pair with the least amount of votes from fans are eliminated from the competition every week. The last pair standing wins the Dancing with the Stars crown. 

Although details about the rest of the cast are yet to be unveiled at a later time, Variety has disclosed that “Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough will resume their roles as co-hosts for the upcoming seasons. Meanwhile, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough will rejoin the judges’ panel.”

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that the new season kicks off on my screen on September 17, airing simultaneously on ABC and Disney+. For those who prefer a bit of delay, there’s always the option to catch it on Hulu the very next day!

The skill Nedoroscik demonstrated by taking off his glasses and executing an impressive pommel horse act earned him the nickname “The Pommel House Clark Kent,” which was announced on an official Olympics social media platform.

He leverages the popularity he’s gained by using it to uplift individuals with visual impairments, a cause close to his heart since he himself experiences strabismus – a condition he has openly shared about on his TikTok account.

Nedoroscik shared his perspective while competing without his glasses, describing his viewpoint when he’s on the pommel horse.

During an interview with Today (as reported by Variety), Nedoroscik mentioned that while it’s not completely obvious, the key to performing on the pommel horse is maintaining control over his equipment to prevent it from flying off. He added that when he’s up on the pommel horse, he primarily relies on touch and feel to guide his movements. In essence, he’s so focused on his gymnastics that he barely perceives what he’s doing, with most of the sensation coming through his hands.

As a gamer, I’ve seen Olympic champions strut their stuff on “Dancing with the Stars” before, and it’s not just athletes from one sport. For instance, gymnast Shawn Johnson made history as the first Olympian gymnast to grace the show back in 2009, taking home the winning trophy. She even came second in a special all-star season of the competition in 2012.

Gymnasts such as Aly Raisman (who placed 4th in 2013), Nastia Liukin (also a 4th-place finisher in 2015), Laurie Hernandez (the champion of 2016), and Simone Biles (4th place in 2017) have also showcased their skills on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Olympic ice skaters and dancers have significantly influenced the show “Dancing with the Stars”. For instance, Kristi Yamaguchi emerged victorious in 2008, Evan Lysacek placed second in 2010, Charlie White finished fifth in 2014, and Meryl Davis, who partnered with White on the ice, triumphed in that same year of 2014.

In addition, Nancy Kerrigan finished in 6th place in 2017, and Johnny Weir finished 6th in 2020.
