Escape from Tarkov Best Maps for Beginners

As an experienced survivor of Tarkov’s harsh wastelands, I can confidently say that these four maps – Woods, Factory, Ground Zero, and Customs – are the perfect starting points for any newcomer.

Starting out in Escape from Tarkov can be quite challenging due to its gameplay mechanics having one of the steeper learning curves in gaming. One reason for this difficulty is that each map, whether small or large, has a unique twist on Tarkov’s overall formula. To help you ease into the game, we’ve selected four maps that are ideal for newcomers to familiarize themselves with.

Woods

In the realm of Escape from Tarkov, I find myself drawn to the expansive woodland terrain known as Woods. It’s a veritable labyrinth teeming with cover, where loot is scattered across a vast expanse rather than concentrated in hotspots. The encounters here are often skirmishes rather than full-blown firefights, making it an ideal playground for newcomers like myself.

With a vast lake and a sawmill marked in the center, as well as a towering mountain to the north-east, navigating this map is quite straightforward for beginners. For novice players, there’s ample opportunity to gain combat experience with Scavs lurking in the small settlements and camps scattered around. Meanwhile, more seasoned players often find themselves engaged in firefights at the sawmill and a large camp situated to the east.

Affordable firearms like the SKS or Mosin Nagant can often suffice during a raid, but it’s advisable to carry something swift, such as a handgun for quick response situations. Additionally, wearing a helmet can help minimize the risk of being sniped.

Factory

If you’re interested in mastering combat skills, the Factory map is ideal for you. While the loot may not be exceptional, it does provide an abundance of materials from toolboxes and medical crates for your base. However, that’s not the main attraction. You can expect frequent skirmishes with Scavs and other players, with minimal breaks in between. The map is filled with numerous corners, catwalks, and secret hiding spots to keep you on your toes.

The factory, though compact, offers multiple escape routes on most sides. You can swiftly leap to an exit in a single jump. The layout allows for easy identification of players and non-player characters, making it simple to choose when to engage in combat. However, beware, as long as Tagilla, the factory’s boss, is present, he becomes aggressive, brandishing his sledgehammer and charging at you. In such instances, your best course of action would be to flee and hope he targets someone else instead.

Regarding the gear, it is suggested to carry handguns, submachine guns, and shotguns. While bringing armor is an option, given that most encounters will take place at close range, if your armor isn’t tier 4 or higher, it might not be necessary to bring it along.

Ground Zero

In essence, Ground Zero serves as Escape from Tarkov’s tutorial level, offering a compact representation of what gameplay is typically like. You’ll find yourself in numerous mid to close-range skirmishes due to the urban layout, which also ensures you can easily navigate and maintain your bearings. Furthermore, there are varying levels of elevation and narrow passageways that add a touch of unpredictability to your gaming experience.

Resources are consistently scattered throughout the map, ensuring you’ll always find something valuable nearby upon respawning. This map is also ideal for accumulating Scav kills since they frequently traverse streets and approach any player they detect. It boasts an exceptionally user-friendly design that allows players to quickly grasp its layout, and it effectively separates players below and above level 20 to create a more balanced playing field.

In terms of gear, it’s advisable to bring along body armor, helmets, and either an SMG or assault rifle for versatility. You may find yourself in a shootout at some point, and the importance of being able to fire multiple rounds quickly into an enemy, if the opportunity arises, should not be overlooked.

Customs

On the renowned map of Escape from Tarkov, Customs, numerous lucrative looting areas are strategically scattered throughout. Notable hotspots include the dormitories situated in the northern region and the fortress toward the southern end. However, there are numerous other locations worth exploring and plenty of Scavs to eliminate as you navigate between them.

The majority of the activity unfolds within an enclosed industrial area, featuring a crackhouse on the west, a fortress in the center, and multiple smaller factories to the east. If you’re aiming for an objective, the wooded region in the north is likely the most secure path. Many players overlook Big Red, a storage facility in the western part of the map, as well as the parking garages behind it, so these could potentially hold useful items.

When it comes to equipment, opt for items suitable for mid-range use. Thus, Submachine Guns (SMGs), assault rifles, and standard rifles are excellent choices, but a reliable AK with a sight is also effective. However, exercise caution when approaching dormitories or the latest gas station as both players and non-player characters there are typically well-equipped for conflict.
