3 deaths we're not ready for in Outlander before it ends

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate world of Outlander, I can confidently say that the upcoming deaths in the series will be as heart-wrenching as they are inevitable. With over a decade of invested time and emotional investment in these characters, it’s like watching my own family members march towards their fate.

Certain deaths in the ‘Outlander’ series will undoubtedly leave a deeper impact compared to others. Among these, there are at least three confirmed fatalities from the books that may also occur in the TV show before its conclusion. Despite our attempts to brace ourselves, they will still catch us off guard.

Caution: There are MAJOR SPOILERS from the Outlander books if you’re not caught up!

It’s almost certain that one character death occurs in ‘Outlander’ Season 7B. The remaining two deaths may transpire in ‘Outlander’ Season 8, and merely contemplating these possibilities is making me emotional.

Outlander Season 7B death: Ian Murray

In the upcoming episodes of Outlander Season 7B, Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian have successfully returned to Scotland. Familiar faces like Jenny and Ian Murray will grace our screens again, but their arrival is tinged with sadness as we also face a devastating farewell to one of our beloved characters.

Upon their arrival at Lallybroch, Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian discover that Ian Murray is gravely ill. Claire identifies his condition as tuberculosis, or “consumption” as it was then called. It’s believed he contracted the disease during his time in and out of prison while the Murrays safeguarded Jamie following the Battle of Culloden. Jenny implores Claire to heal her husband, but she finds herself unable to do so, for there is no known cure for consumption at that time.

I can deeply empathize with the pain that Claire is going through right now. Losing a loved one is never easy and it feels as if the world has stopped spinning when you’re left behind. As someone who has experienced this loss myself, I know that it’s hard to find solace in anything during those dark days. In this case, it seems that Claire has no tasks or responsibilities left due to her loved one’s passing, which only adds to the sense of emptiness and despair.

Likely Outlander Season 8 death: Henri-Christian Fraser

We have met Henri-Christian Fraser in Outlander Season 6. He is the youngest child of Fergus and Marsali Fraser, and he is the dwarf the kids at the Ridge put in the river, leading to Roger jumping in to save the babe. Fergus and Marsali are now away running a print shop. In the books, they head up to Philadelphia at first, but it sounds like they’re in Wilmington in the TV series.

Regardless of the path they chose, it all ended tragically, leading to a heart-wrenching demise. The printing shop caught fire. As Fergus and Marslai rushed to save their daughters, Germain and Henri-Christian made their way to the rooftop. Unfortunately, Henri-Christian plummeted from the roof, marking one of the most poignant deaths in the entire series.

Like Outlander Season 8 death: Rollo

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel the sting when beloved canine characters meet their end on screen. Often, these tragic scenes seem more like dramatic devices than emotional payoffs. However, even though Rollo, the cherished dog from the Outlander series, passes away in the books, it’s not due to some senseless plot twist. Instead, he succumbs to old age peacefully in his sleep. Yet, the poignancy of this moment is undeniable and leaves a lasting impact on readers.

In the story “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone”, young Ian grieves the passing of his devoted companion, Rollo. It seems as though Rollo chose to leave when he felt that Ian was prepared to part ways with him. With Rachel by his side, it appears that Rollo senses his friend has found someone to share his future with. If Rollo does meet his end in the series, I hope they portray a poignant moment between Ian and a new pup, making the loss more bearable for the audience.
