As a cinephile who has traversed through the labyrinth of cinema for decades, I must say that the release of Kalki 2898 AD on various OTT platforms has been quite an eventful journey. Being a follower of Indian cinema, I have witnessed the rise and fall of many films, but this one, with its grandeur and star-studded cast, certainly stands out.

2024 saw the long-awaited online premiere of Kalki on Netflix, set for its Hindi version, on August 22nd. Meanwhile, Amazon Prime secured the broadcast rights for the film in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. Now, a day after its digital release, social media platforms are overflowing with audience reviews following their viewing experience.

So far, the multi-star film appears to be garnering a mix of opinions from online viewers. Additionally, there’s been quite a bit of discussion linked to Arshad Warsi’s recent contentious comments regarding the movie.

Check out some of the reactions:

For those unfamiliar, the film Kalki, set in 2898 AD, boasts an impressive ensemble of experienced actors from across Indian cinema, featuring stars like Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan. Additionally, the movie also stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Rajendra Prasad, Brahmanandam, and others.

In addition to these stars, the film features guest roles played by actors such as Vijay Deverakonda, SS Rajamouli, Dulquer Salmaan, Ram Gopal Varma, and others.

Film director Nag Ashwin creatively based his storyline on ancient Hindu myths, set in a post-apocalyptic landscape of the year 2898 AD. Since its debut, this film has garnered significant acclaim, earning an astounding 1000 crores at the box office, and is now recognized as one of the most expensive productions ever made.

Following shortly after its debut, whispers about a sequel for the movie have begun to circulate. According to director Nag Ashwin, the storyline of Kalki: 2898 AD was initially planned as a two-part series.

In an interview with TopMob, director Nag Ashwin revealed some insights into the progress of the sequel, stating, “I wouldn’t say it’s 60% complete. We’ve filmed approximately 25-30 days for the second installment, but there’s still a substantial amount of work remaining. More preparation is needed in terms of design and action sequences. Essentially, we have to start over from the beginning. The process of preparing for this project is quite lengthy; it will take time before we bring actors back on set again.”
