Did you know not Siddharth, but Sivakarthikeyan was the first choice for Kamal Haasan, Shankar’s Indian 2?

As a diehard fan of Tamil cinema who has been following the industry for decades, I must say that the news about Sivakarthikeyan being the initial choice to play Chitra Aravindhan in Indian 2 is quite intriguing. It’s fascinating to see how different things could have turned out if prior commitments hadn’t prevented him from joining the cast.

As a film enthusiast who grew up watching Indian cinema, I eagerly anticipated the release of S. Shankar’s Indian 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 classic. Having fond memories of the original, I was hopeful that this new installment would live up to my expectations and offer a thrilling experience like its predecessor. However, upon seeing it in July, I was left disappointed.

In the movie, Siddharth played Chithra Aravindhan, a social media reporter – his second project with the director of Anniyan, following their work together on Boys in 2003. Interestingly, it was recently reported that Siddharth wasn’t originally intended to portray this character in Indian 2; instead, he came on board as a replacement for the original choice.

According to an article in Times of India, at first, Shankar intended for Sivakarthikeyan to portray Chitra Aravindhan in Indian 2. Unfortunately, due to previous obligations, the actor known as Maaveeran couldn’t join the sequel’s cast.

Mentioned before, Indian 2 is the eagerly awaited follow-up to the 1996 film Indian, directed by Shankar as well. The movie’s production was first announced in September 2017, with filming starting approximately sixteen months afterward.

The movie made its debut on the large cinema screens in July this year and garnered unfavorable feedback from both fans and critics. Moreover, the creators of the film hinted at a third installment within the Indian series, titled “Indian 3,” set for release in 2025. As per director Shankar, most of Indian 3 was filmed concurrently with Indian 2, leaving just 25 days of shooting to be finished.

It’s worth noting that Kajal Aggarwal will join the previously announced cast in a significant part for this upcoming project. Additionally, it has been revealed that the movie will explore the Indian freedom movement of the 1890s more deeply.

At his workplace, Siddharth has several projects awaiting him next, such as the sports drama movie “Test,” which will star Nayanthara, R. Madhavan, Meera Jasmine, among others in significant roles. Additionally, he is involved in N. Rajasekar’s upcoming project titled “Miss You.”

Speaking of Sivakarthikeyan, he recently appeared in the science fiction movie “Ayalaan” earlier this year. Coming up next, you’ll see him in the biographical war film “Amaran,” which follows the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan and is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. Sai Pallavi plays the lead role in this film, set to be released on October 31st of this year. Additionally, Sivakarthikeyan has also agreed to star in his 23rd film as the main actor, working with veteran director AR Murugadoss under the working title SK23. Rukmini Vasanth is paired with him in this movie, and reports suggest it will feature a large ensemble cast as well.
