Overwatch 2 Season 12 lets you “permanently avoid” players you don’t like

As a seasoned Overwatch 2 player who has encountered more than a fair share of frustrating teammates, I must say that the introduction of the Pinned Avoid slots in Season 12 is nothing short of a game-changer! For years, I’ve been dealing with toxic players, and now finally, I can permanently block them from my matches. It’s like a breath of fresh air in the heat of battle.

If you’re a dedicated player of Overwatch 2 or any other competitive first-person shooter, you might have encountered a teammate whose playing style just doesn’t mesh with yours. We’re referring to the individual who seems to thrive on negativity, hurling insults and sometimes even causing disruption when things don’t go their way. Unlike many other games, Overwatch 2 offers an option to block such players from being paired with you (though these blocks can expire). However, in the latest Season 12 update, you now have the ability to “permanently block” them instead.

As per the Overwatch 2 Season 12 update, the developers have rolled out an essential tweak to the game’s unique dodge list system by adding three “Fixed Positions.” Getting placed into these spots will let you permanently dodge certain players during matchmaking, ensuring a smoother experience as you race up the competitive rankings. Of course, the 12 Recents Dodge slots are still there, which come in handy for lessening your interactions with players you’d rather not play with frequently.

As a devoted player, I’d like to highlight an important aspect: If a player shows up in your Recent Avoid list, they’ll automatically disappear after seven days. But if you don’t want to play with them again, you’ll need to re-add their username. You can also reset the expiration time using the Reset Avoid Expiration feature.

Gavin Winter, Systems Designer for Overwatch 2, stated, “As waiting times grow longer, we’ll gradually disregard players at the bottom of your Recents list.” Furthermore, he mentioned that the new system will automatically swap out the player who has been offline the shortest time if the Recents list is full, eliminating the need for you to manually manage the list.
