King of Meat is a co-op dungeon crawler for the Fall Guys crowd

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the grandeur of AAA titles to the quirky charm of indie games. King of Meat falls squarely into the latter category, and that’s exactly why I’m excited about it!

Game newcomer Glowmade might not ring a bell for many gaming aficionados, but their team’s pedigree could certainly turn heads. Comprising veterans from Fable creators Lionhead Studios and LittleBigPlanet developers Media Molecule, this promising developer is working on a project that seems to draw inspiration from the whimsical charm of the latter. This upcoming game features charming characters dropped into a fantasy realm brimming with user-created dungeons. The title of this debut effort? King of Meat – and Shacknews recently got a sneak peek at it.

In a fantastical realm teeming with dragons, skeletons, trolls, and a dash of absurd commerce, King of Meat is set. The inhabitants revel in their preferred pastime – a thrilling event held at the Konstruct Coliseum, where teams of four navigate treacherous dungeons brimming with puzzles, traps, and relentless adversaries as spectators cheer them on.

In King of Meat, you get an immensely gratifying experience as it delves into the dungeon-crawling genre. The combat is easy to grasp yet challenging, offering hack-and-slash action alongside imaginative magical spells. What sets it apart is its quick, bite-sized sessions that don’t overstay their welcome – a run through a dungeon rarely takes more than ten minutes. This brevity allows for seamless transitions into the next adventure. Laughter is abundant in King of Meat, whether it’s navigating obstacles like evading showering bombs or utilizing its eccentric abilities. One such ability summons a massive horse hoof from a portal, complete with humorous commentary like, “What are horses, really?”

A major piece of the King of Meat formula involves dungeon design. This is where having Media Molecule experience works wonders, because King of Meat’s dungeons will be entirely player-created. The game will ship with over 100 levels, all created by players themselves through its tester program. That number will grow with the addition of Create Mode, which allows users to craft dungeons with dozens of in-game tools. Glowmade has carefully constructed this mode with a controller in mind, allowing anybody to create the level they want to make. Players are welcome to create any kind of dungeon they’d like, but King of Meat will operate under Super Mario Maker rules, meaning that the player must successfully complete their creation before it can be submitted into the rotation.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but draw some parallels between King of Meat and Fall Guys in terms of its fun-loving atmosphere. What sets King of Meat apart is the extensive customization options, many of which you can unlock as you progress through the game. From amusing outfits to flair that adds a touch of personality to any clothing item, and even character emotes, there’s plenty to keep you entertained.

Although the atmosphere and layout of King of Meat might not stand out exceptionally, its user-generated content seems promising enough to sustain its popularity for years. Gameplay is engaging and matches are quick and easy to find. There’s a wealth of content to discover in terms of story, cosmetics, and harder leagues. Get ready for King of Meat, launching soon on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

As a seasoned video game enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I had the privilege of attending an exclusive press event in Los Angeles to get an early hands-on experience with a highly anticipated PC build. However, it is important to note that what I played was merely a preliminary version, and the final product may still undergo changes before its official release. So, while my preview offers valuable insights into the game’s current state, I encourage gamers to approach it with caution as further refinements could significantly impact the final experience.
