Jeethu Joseph breaks silence on Drishyam 3 with Mohanlal; says ‘I know how to end the film, but…’

As a dedicated follower of Malayalam cinema, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the remarkable journey of Jeethu Joseph, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed Drishyam series. His latest chat with Red FM about Nunakuzhi and a potential Drishyam 3 has left me both intrigued and eagerly anticipating what’s to come.

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that the talented filmmaker, Jeethu Joseph, known for masterpieces like Drishyam and its sequel, recently engaged in a stimulating conversation with Red FM regarding his upcoming project, Nunakuzhi. During this chat, he was inquired about potential plans for Drishyam 3, to which he candidly revealed that he’s currently pondering over the idea.

The filmmaker expressed, “At the moment, I’m drawing a blank regarding the story. You see, I didn’t have any plans for a sequel following Drishyam. It took me five years to finalize Drishyam 2 because there were issues in a significant aspect of the original movie that required my attention.”

In a similar vein, the third segment seems to be encountering the same predicament as well. I have a clear vision for how the film should end, yet I’m stumped on other aspects. The movie’s climax is already crystallized in my mind and Mohanlal sir has expressed his approval, but I need to flesh out the details.

Additionally, Jeethu Joseph disclosed that he conceived the notion for the upcoming movie following an encounter with singer KS Chitra at a promotional function. He shared that while he hasn’t finalized the approach yet, the intriguing idea proposed by the seasoned artist has provided him an opportunity to initiate this new film project.

If you haven’t heard, Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal teamed up in 2013 for the popular movie Drishyam. This film tells the story of a man named Georgekutty, who with his family works to clear their names when they are accused of murdering Varun Prabhakar, the son of IG Geetha Prabhakar, under suspicion.

The Malayalam film received widespread acclaim and even sparked a follow-up titled “Drishyam 2” in 2021, which premiered directly on a streaming platform. The movie’s popularity resulted in its adaptation into multiple Indian languages such as “Drushya” in Kannada, “Drushyam” in Telugu, “Papanasam” in Tamil, and “Drishyam” in Hindi.

Additionally, you’ll find that the film has been re-created internationally under the titles “Dharmayuddhaya” in Sinhala and “Sheep Without a Shepherd” in Chinese. Remakes of the movie are also planned for Indonesia and Korea, marking it as the first Indian film to be remade in multiple countries simultaneously.
