'There is a sense of competition...': When Ram Charan REACTED to rivalry with his RRR co-star Jr NTR

As a lifestyle expert who has spent years dissecting the intricacies of the film industry, I must say that the dynamic between Jr NTR and Ram Charan in RRR was nothing short of captivating. While their on-screen rivalry added an edge to the storyline, off-screen they seem to share a bond that goes beyond mere competition. Their familial backgrounds lend a unique perspective to their camaraderie, reminding us all that even the fiercest rivals can share deep-rooted affection.

In the acclaimed movie “RRR,” directed by SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan displayed an extraordinary screen partnership that left audiences spellbound. The film’s success at the box office was a testament to their captivating performances. Interestingly, Ram Charan has spoken candidly about his competitive dynamic with his fellow actor.

During an interview in 2023, he expressed, “There’s definitely a feeling of brotherhood and camaraderie, yet we maintain a healthy level of competition. Interestingly, my family has seven actors, and when the celebration ends or the festival concludes, even my cousins and I become quite competitive. The same can be said about NTR; there’s also a sense of rivalry between us.”

He remarked, “For the past 20-30 years, our families have held a fierce rivalry within the movie business. It felt as if we belonged to competing dynasties.”

Diving into another conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, I was asked about the possibility of filmmaker Rajamouli delving into my family’s rivalry with Jr NTR in an upcoming project. Here’s how I responded:

Reflecting on this now, it seems quite plausible. After all, why should we limit ourselves to just the scripted rivalry? Mr. Rajamouli himself suggested that he wanted to portray our genuine camaraderie in scenes where we’re not adversaries, Ram shared.

Additionally, the actor from Game Changer expressed his earlier concerns about potential competitiveness regarding who might excel more, but genuine professional rivalry was never a factor in their relationship.

For those unfamiliar, the movie RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, is a work of fictional history portraying the lives of two Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The film delves into their friendship, as well as their struggle against British colonialism and the Nizam of Hyderabad in the 1920s.

In the course of the tale, these pair of remarkable characters cross paths and motivate each other, resulting in an epic saga filled with adventure, sentiment, and melodies. The film RRR primarily revolves around Bheem’s quest to save a captive young girl from the clutches of the British.

In a striking display of his distinctive, grandiose style, director Rajamouli orchestrates the movie with extravagant action scenes and lively dance routines, one of which is the sensational Naatu Naatu that earned the Best Original Song accolade. This recognition marked a historic milestone as RRR became the inaugural Indian feature film to win an Oscar. Released in 2022, the movie was a massive success at the box office, proving to be a commercial triumph.

Currently, Jr NTR and Ram Charan are preparing for the upcoming releases of their highly anticipated movies. Jr NTR’s next project is Devara: Part 1, while Ram Charan will make his appearance in director S Shankar’s film titled Game Changer.
