Park Chan-wook Sets Production Start Date for Next Movie

As a seasoned gamer of South Korean cinema, the news about Park Chan-wook‘s upcoming film “I Can’t Help It” has sent chills down my spine! Ever since I first experienced the twisted yet captivating world of Oldboy back in 2003, Park’s masterful storytelling and unparalleled visual style have left an indelible mark on me.

Director Park Chan-wook is all geared up to return to filmmaking, as the production for his upcoming movie will kick off this coming weekend.

As per a recent report from THR, production for Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming film titled “I Can’t Help It” is scheduled to start this coming Saturday. This will be his 12th feature movie, following his release in 2022 titled “Decision to Leave”. Notably, this will also be his new project since his co-direction of the HBO miniseries “The Sympathizer”, which recently completed filming and featured Robert Downey Jr. as a lead star.

What do we know about I Can’t Help It?

Drawing inspiration from Donald Westlake’s 1996 novel “The Ax,” the upcoming film I Can’t Help It will delve into the story of a man named Man-soo who finds himself out of work. In a bold and potentially lethal move, this unemployed man decides to target his competition, planning to eliminate them in a bid to reclaim his lost standing.

The upcoming movie features renowned Korean actors Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin, with the story taking place in Korea. At this point, no release details have been disclosed, but this project has been eagerly anticipated by Park for a long time now. Back in 2009, it was announced that he would be adapting the film, though various other projects delayed its progression.

Apart from The Sympathizer and Decision to Leave, Park is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished South Korean film directors in history. Some other notable works by him include Oldboy (2003), The Handmaiden (2016), Stoker (2013), and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2000).
